Y'ALL, I found a lot of new info about Dmd'z upcoming novel adaptation of Unknown Lover (ThomasKong) on this reddit page!! (LONG COMMENT)

About the novel: (the synopsis already pretty much covers most of this, but I've hidden it as a potential novel spoiler)

After his boyfriend cheats on him, Blue (Kong) moves to NYC for a fresh start. There, he meets Anwar (Thomas), a charismatic Thai-American fashion student who lives in the same sharehouse—and speaks fluent Thai. As they grow closer, Anwar becomes a source of comfort for Blue, especially during his lowest moments. But admiration soon turns into idolization, with Blue seeing Anwar as someone who introduces him to a whole new world—smoking, drinking, fashion, and even sex & pleasure.

At its core, the novel dissects the emotional constraints of a situationship. Anwar is particularly fascinating: outwardly warm and effortlessly charming, yet with a smile that never quite reaches his eyes. Meanwhile, Blue is super vulnerable, I think viewers will be able to relate to him and will take to babying him hardcore. Guy seems to never catch a break with red flags.

Novel's popularity & why it was considered 'unadaptable':

Unknown Lover (direct translation: His Name is Anwar) by Cinzano505 is a VERY popular novel in the Thai BL space. I'd say it's almost at Khemjira's level of popularity.

The novel is tricky to adapt b/c it's a fully character-driven story, there isn't really a plot to speak of. It needs a talented director and screenwriter, and of course, a talented cast, to truly make the story engaging. Also, it's set 100% in NYC, with the scenes in Thailand only appearing as flashbacks. New York is a character in and of itself (think of the role it plays in Gossip Girl and Sex and the City), and since the adaptation explores the Asian-American experience in part, too, it's important that the setting remains unchanged in the adaptation. Of course, you can imagine how tough that will be to coordinate.

Why DMD and ThomasKong?

Over the years, several companies and production houses have approached the author to secure adaptation rights. However, all of them wanted to change the setting to Bangkok, which the author vehemently opposed. DMD was the only house that promised her they wouldn't change the setting.

Once she accepted sending rights over to DMD, she wanted to see what actors they had in mind for the roles. They sent her a couple of options along with some info on the actors themselves. When she saw ThomasKong's photo, she felt 'goosebumps all over her body' and instinctively felt like they were the right people to play Blue and Anwar. She then found out Thomas speaks fluent English which sealed the deal.

After the lineup reveal, she found out that ThomasKong and AnwarBlue have more similarities than she expected: Blue had studied in New Zealand as an exchange student when he was younger. Turns out Kong went there as a kid for the same reason. Anwar is Thai-American, and so is Thomas."

Idk about y'all, but this post has just made me even more excited about this show!!! It has the potential to be sooo freaking good!!!

I love all the interactions between the established couples. I like how it was a smooth transition into the next story-line and not just a total 180 turn.
