Y'all I finished Secret Relationships... I LOVED IT SO MUch!! It so freaking good!!! 10/10. The angst and drama hit me Soo right♥️😭

Same. 10/10 also. Kim Jun Seo's (Daon) debut as an actor, and he was amazing.

 hanna:

To anyone who has watched episode 8 of secret relationships, what are your thoughts?!?!

I think without Jae Min's interference, Da On might have been pretty happy with Kim Su Hyeon for a little while. Su Hyeon would have spoiled him, but he was also possessive and that can get suffocating. I'm glad Da On ended up with Seong Hyeon who seems to be the most reasonable of his three suitors. Jae Min was just psycho, treating Da On like a property: I saw him first so he's mine. Seriously,  Su Hyeon almost looked reasonable next to him. And the clincher is that Seong Hyeon actually met Da On first even if they don't remember.

 Indie Art Girl:
Daon seems to allow Su Hyeon to kiss him and then the next morning Su Hyeon is in his bed?? So did they do the deed? Or should I just keep watching? Like what's happening ?!? 💀

They did NOT. Da On slept on the couch. Even though Su Hyeon is pushy, I don't think he would actually SA Da On. He genuinely likes him but allowed Jae Min to get into his head with the fake dating and became really insecure because he's been gone for what, 7 years.

Since you asked...😈

First of all the actors did a great job with their roles. Well done! I was freaked out. 👀

After the unexpected & upsetting (for me) self-stabbing scene (Jae Min) I had to take a break. Then came back to see the kidnapping & attempted murder/suicide of Jae Min & Daon, then the stabbing of Seong Hyeon, and finally Daon showing up in the nick of time for a work presentation, bloodied but soldiering on toward his dream as though he didn't just face death at the hands of a serious wacko.

Seong Hyeon was the only sane healthy person, but then again he chose Daon...

Random questions that don't need an answer:

What are the odds of liking and being caught between two psychos at the same time?  💀

Why was Daon STILL so dense that he went to meet Jae Min in the garage without hesitation?

Suddenly Su Hyeon goes all soft and sorry? With tears even?

What happened with Jae Min after his arrest? ...Daon prob needs to get a restraining order.

How is Daon able to move on so quickly with no time to heal, and into Seong Hyeon's arms?

Is Daon co-dependent much?

Why the infamous Korean "Dead Fish" kiss at the end after all the passionate love crimes? 🤷🏻‍♀️

In the end Daon & Seung Hyeon are a cute couple. I'd like to see them as MLs in a smth lighter & a bit fluffy, cuz yeah, that's my comfort zone.  😆

 Italophilia:
They did NOT.

Oh ok! sometimes it was hard to understand Daon's relationship btw Jae Min and Su Hyeon. Both men were scary to me, for different reasons. I wouldn't normally pick this type of drama, but I didn't look at the tags close enough this time around. After the self-stabbing scene I went back to the MDL page and looked it over closer.

Well this turned into a long post…

Secret Relationship : Thoughts on EP 8 :

  • Jaemin dressing as a groom in white for the kidnapping scene is peak level insane. It’s like he’s still trying to keep up the angelical persona.
  • The kidnapping scene was done so well because I was STRESSED.
  • Seonghyeon saving Daon must be such a blow for Soohyun because despite all his supposed power and money, he always fails when it matters.
  • Crazy Jaemin speaking truths—
  • Regarding the presentation/dubai, this is basically saying one will cut your wings while the other sets you free in even the most dire of times.
  • The confession. The kiss. Screams.
  • WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE WITH THEIR MATCHING OUTFITS
  • I live for that cake scene. Even the music was perfect.
  • A ring! No I mean, THE ring!
  • Soohyun’s ring being too big. Jaemin’s being too small. And Seonghyeon’s fitting perfectly. Is such a great metaphor. I was floored.
  • The stupid smile knowing his bf is coming home lmao
  • Lovely but pls hug and kiss on the sidewalk.
  • No way. He met him first!!! I screamed, ok.

Secret Relationships : Final Thoughts

The casting for this show is insane, because how do they all fit their roles so well???

Seonghyeon’s longing puppy eyes.
The anger in Soohyun’s every move.
The crazy that just spills out of Jaemin.
And then our Daon, who is so beautifull. I 100% get why they’re all obsessed with him.

For a quick character analysis.

  • Jaemin is an unhinged bastard, like a typical abuser, he craves control and uses every means possible to gain power over Daon.
  • Soohyun is a coward who can’t do anything he really wants, and his self hatred comes out in the form of his anger issues. I do beleive he once loved Daon, but that love has long turned into an ugly thing, fed by regret and failed self-expectations. It must be such a blow to realize time and time again, that he’s not the man he thinks he is.
  • Daon is another type of messed up, he looks for love in the wrong places, because his family did not teach him love. It’s no suprise he ends up meeting and loving people who hurt him and gaslight him, it’s a cycle. He’s harsh with his words because we meet him at a place and time where he’s now actively trying to protect himself, and he’s still failing. He’s also very obviously emotionally worn out.
  • Seonghyeon is presented as a great guy, but tbh the great thing about him is that he’s normal! He treats Daon with respect and is honest and upfront with his feelings. Something the other two can’t fathom to save their lives.

On to the plot. This was different, and just for that it deserves praise. The plot had me hooked from the first ep, and I was invested in every single one of these characters and their history. Yes, it was messy with extremely flawed characters, but that’s exactly what I wanted when I went in to this. The best of it all is that this show didn’t redeem the red flag characters, like is often done in this type of show. (Yes, Soohyun got his little ‘I’m sorry’ speach, but Daon didn’t forgive him.) Instead it gave us a happy ending with the only healthy and loving character of the bunch. All this to say that it met my expectations.

Seonghyeon might not have been Daon’s first love, but I’m confident he will be his last (and that’s the most important one of all.)

Final Rating : 10/10

I wanted to watch Top Form today, but it’ll have to wait until tomorrow night 🥲

Final episode of "Secret Relationships": Not much to add to what others have already said.

My comfort zone is usually the cute, fluffy, feel-good stuff, rather than messy, toxic, angsty multiple-psycho-stalker stories (or thrillers or action or horror or vampires or zombies ...) - but actually, I'm OK with anything that's really really good. And wow, this was indeed really really good: story, pacing, acting, execution, everything. It'd put it among the all-time best KBLs, which is particularly remarkable in that three of the four leads have little to zero dramatic acting experience.

My professional opinion is totally unbiased by my unquenchable, undying love for Daon. (Yes, he now has a third psycho-stalker.)

Plan for today:
(1) Finale of "Fight For Love". (Shout-out for Vietnam!)
(2) Next two episodes of "Love Casting".
(3) Decide on whether to start on "Top Form" and "Sweet Tooth" or instead to wait a few weeks and then do a catch-up.
(4) Decide on whether to try "The Last Time", despite the very low MDL rating, but I have a feeling it's too lakorny for me. (Anyone watching it? Comments?)

Post-watch update:
(1) I really enjoyed "Fight For Love". Very cute, sweet and fluffy series - and just seven episodes, so not a big time investment. (Youtube "RL Studio" - Vietnam, so not listed on MDL)
(2) I'm getting more and more invested into "Love Casting" - not only the usual trajectory as I get to know the contenders but also because it's getting more seriously into their acting skills. (iQiyi but not Europe, so I'm VPNing to USA)

I have this one in my drama notebook to watch cuz "Mr. P said it's a cute one". 😆

Also on my PTW list!

Many of you mentioned having a "comfort drama" that you go back to periodically, I think. Or when you need comfort I'm assuming?

Anyways, I've never had one until now. I struggled after finishing SR last night and needed smth to help wash away the toxic aftermath (I was worried about nightmares) and found my comfort drama! It's not a BL, but maybe I'll find a BL as well.

What I really like about it is the quiet, steady devotion and love one person has over the years for another. Never demanding but always supportive and caring. With a happy ending, of course! I think it's one of my top favorite romantic storylines, for both straight & BL love stories. 🩷

There's probably a BL with the same story theme and maybe I can find it one day. Maybe I've already watched it and just need to ID it. 😊

So I'd like to ask:

What is your comfort drama? I'd love to know.

Do you know of a BL drama like what I described above?

 Indie Art Girl:
What is your comfort drama?

It's ironic that my #1 comfort BL is also so deeply traumatic (although nicely balanced out with fluffy sweetness): "Until We Meet Again". (Of course, right?)  I pretty much have it on continuous loop, so I'm probably watching it for the 800th time right now. Just an hour ago I watched Dean's first meeting with his grandmother. There are lots of scenes that have me in pieces, but the scenes with the grandmother (Dean's first meeting and Pharm's first meeting) are near the top of that list. She's such a good actress.

Yeah, I know: It's a strange choice for a comfort drama - but I'm full of contradictions.

Drop the rec-- I'm going to guess it's Forever and Ever-- but if it's something different, I want to watch!

This is very public knowledge but-- Star in My Mind. I watch it several times a year. It's not a masterpiece, but it makes me happy.

I really can't think of a BL like this 🤔 Maybe Perfect Propose (but that doesn't happen in years) or Plus & Minus (Years of devotion is there, but it gets a little messy in the middle.)

im watching plus and minus recently
