After 2 years of BL dramas, I have made it to 100 completed dramas (yes I’m slow 😭) 🥳

bro i've been  almost 4 years(edit: It will be 4 years on the 8th of august) into bl and I'm still not at 100, I'm at 59 rn. I probably have more but i doubt that even with the ones that i forgot to put here will be enough to boost up.

Since the last thing I need is another new show, (lol) I started Doctor’s Mine. I can’t say it’s good, but, as Mr. P would say, I can put up with a lot for the sake of cuties. And there are quite a few. Especially Pak Varayu, whom Mr. P and I adore. (But he’s not yours, so don’t even think of claiming him Mr. P!) 

The chemistry was definitely chemistrying, though, and there’s a very spicy MonPak scene if anyone’s interested. It took me awhile to finish the episode because i kept getting distracted, but I’ll still keep watching, because cuties and chemistry and spice.

we are having a birthday party for my spouse today so i actually have a lot to do and cannot catch up on BLs all day. But I did catch up on a few and i finished Knock Out. I think RXinw said most of what I want to say about it, but I’ll post more later if I can. I agree that it was really great and gave it a 9.

Today's BL Thoughts

During one of my moments of BL contemplation an interesting thought came to my mind. Hear me out because I want to know if I am the only one who has thoughts on this.

I am thinking that the reason why older BLs, despite whatever apparent flaws they might have, hold such a special place in my heart is because of the time period in which they were released where BLs were not being released in such copious amounts like today. 

Back then you had to wait on the next BL to drop, and often there were not many, just the one or two airing on Friday most times. Hence, when a BL wrapped up you had the time between it wrapping up and waiting for the next to obsess over it and re-watch scenes to the point that you become attached to it.

However, these days BLs are being released copiously, so as you finish one BL you go to the next. That break where you would obsess over what you just finished no longer exists. For example I just finished Knock Out and since then I have not once looked back at it, so there is not much attachment to it despite my high rating. There are a lot of my 10s that I have never once looked back at. 

On the other hand, in this type of BL climate it allows you to truly find the BLs that you connect with. The BLs that you re-watch scenes from or in their entirety, not forgetting them and moving on to the next as soon as you have finished them, are the ones that hold your heart. For me a good example of this is Meet You at the Blossom.

This is solely my experience. I know that there are others who move at a slower pace than me, who take the time to go back and re-watch things.

M/M Dark Romance Book Rec.I highly recommend this book. If anyone is familiar with this author then you know she is great. She is the author of the best MM romance book that I have ever read to date; God of Fury. All her books are connected to the same universe, so characters from her different books will make appearances. You can do some research and learn about the Rinaverse. You can read the books as standalones though (I do).

I will go with Enigma because my ego may fall into Alpha category, but at the same time it does not dictate my mind and reasoning. Plus, I adopt well to whatever situation I find myself in. I am flexible. Sometimes I fear this trait may make me settle for less than, but then that is where my ego steps in to safe guard my worth lol. Plus I have mentioned my, "my way or the highway" attitude before so there is that lol

I wasn't part of the "old days of BL" and wonder at what age you started since you make it sound like it was years & years ago. You woulda been in grade school, LOL. Maybe you did start then. I bet you did. 😆 🤣

Anyways, after you described waiting for a while inbtw BL shows I will say that sometimes I feel rushed to finish a series cuz there's so many waiting their turn to be watched. Funny that you mention this as I was thinking about time yesterday and remembering how I used to watch my dramas more slowly than now. I even had the drastic thought of deleting my PTW list, thinking it might be less pressure.  🫢 😮

I've never been one to go back much or to repeatedly watch the same drama or scenes again. It would too boooooring. It's a good way to punish me though.

Regarding time between shows and rewatching shows, I do think stories live in our heads more when we are watching or reading fewer of them. But I’ve always watched a lot of tv and read a lot of books, so I don’t feel like amount necessarily affects me. I have a terrible memory for stories though and love rewatching my favorites endlessly.  I find it comforting. One or two rewatches just help me remember better. Often I want to go back and rewatch something after a clip or picture of it online triggers a memory. certain shows are amazing but I don’t want to repeat the experience if it was emotionally difficult. Sometimes I just rewatch clips or spicy scenes. Also every night before bed I end with a comfort BL, something not-stressful usually that I’ve seen before.

after saying all that, though, I also remember every hint of a lesbian relationship i saw on screen or in film when I came out as bisexual in the 90s. Back then we were desperate for queer content, and even rewatched garbage stuff. So I can see how BLs might make a bigger impact if it’s content you’re looking and waiting for and don’t have much of.
