okay so I found out about some short Chinese BLs and watched one of them. It's called A Sketchy Job!.

I guess it could've been better but the video quality is top notch, it's on youtube

and the story is kinda sad, but they stop the mini-series at the right moments too

Lost in Kyoto and Trapped in Osaka are the other two mini-series but I'll watch them tomorrow

I got Go Cheng Yu. He’s definitely closest to my real-life spouse.  But I think Chi Cheng is the sexiest. I’d like him in imaginary life.

I watched Trapped in Osaka (very good) and what’s out so far of Lost in Kyoto (good so far). The channel seems to be producing high quality content for such a low budget.

No, they dub the original Chinese. I looked it up and this is a popular way with many shows to create a uniform Mandarin accent throughout and apparently cheaper to have a full separate voice cast than to record the sound as they film the show.

so for all of you who love the untamed, those are not the actors‘ voices. 

i don’t know how a show decides whether to use the original actors voices or not but check the full cast because the voice actors are listed if it’s dubbed. According to my research dubbing is especially used for period dramas but Revenged Love and ABO Desire were both dubbed as well.

Yes, exactly. It's hard for English speakers to grasp the extent of dialect variation in Chinese, even to the point of mutual unintelligibility. And even if Chinese viewers can understand the actor's dialect without any problem, it's glaring for Chinese speakers that the actors can't possibly be from the same place where the drama is supposedly taking place.

With China now so rich, I'm not sure that being cheaper is still so much of a driver, at least for big-budget productions, but Chinese viewers are used to dubbing, so here we are.

At least the dubbing is "Revenged Love" is reasonably well done. In some low-budget Chinese productions, it's truly awful.

I see, I was not aware of this. Now I am wondering what their real voices sound like.

RE: Revenged Love  From what I've read, Zi Yu dubbed his own lines post-production so you're hearing his real voice. And you get the idea of the others' voices from the BTS, which are not dubbed.

BL Challenge

@RX thanks you for your submissions. Even without checking my DMs yet, I’m thrilled. (can’t wait to see what you sent me, though.) all the scenes you picked are ones I had up for consideration, except for Big Dragon, which I have not seen yet. But I did think about Sunset x Vibes.

In the end, I am choosing the NC scene in episode 9 of Reset, which ends with the beautiful overhead shots of ThadaArmin on the sofa. I love the camera work in the whole show, but those overhead shots were especially beautiful.

i have been busy and stressed but I will try to load some photos of the scene to my online Pond Ponlawit gallery and post a link.


side note: one scene I also considered may be one hardly anyone has seen. When Battle of the Writers was taken down from IQIYI mid-air, I watched it on an “alternative“ site. There was a beautiful NC scene for TutorYim in a tent in the forest in full period costume. It was incredibly sexy too. when The show ended up on YouTube I noticed all my favorite NC scenes were cut from the show, and other versions of the show were no longer available anywhere. I still hold out hope that one day IQIYI will license the uncensored version of the show again. I know a lot of people didn’t like the show that much but I love TutorYim and enjoyed the show a lot, even if it had its flaws.
