"Red Envelope" is also (officially) on Netflix Bangkok (via VPN).

@Dora, I know you probably still don't have VPN, but it's really easy and useful.

The original Taiwanese movie "Marry My Dead Body", of which "Red Envelope" is a remake, is likewise on Netflix (everywhere, so no need for VPN). It's more gay-themed comedy-action than BL (and no HEA) - but I loved it, too!

I’ll get a VPN one of these days….

and I plan to watch both movies just haven’t yet

Lover Merman

i agree, not a train wreck yet just not exactly good either. But I keep watching because of course I do.

kita-kun

i don’t care if I don’t know the back story or all the characters. I’m still really enjoying this.

BoatOat Omegaverse BL

in case there was any doubt, this is probably going to be mostly even spicier NC scenes than my stubborn and I’m all here for it. Regarding the knotting, I wonder how they will explain it…. I’ve only ever encountered it in novels with detailed descriptions. I don’t think that would work for a BL. But maybe the fans will just fill in the gaps….

if you don’t know what knotting is, Google was happy to explain.

This song "The Moon Represents My Heart" 月亮代表我的心 is one of my favorite songs. The song was featured in the series Moonlight Chicken and the guys from the series did their own cover of it at the time. I had no idea Perth & Santa sang this together recently also.

Thanks for posting. This song is really lovely.

It's a beautiful song!

I just watched "Situationship in the City" (Youtube, 2 episodes, total runtime 45 minutes, Vietnam so not on MDL) - and wow, I loved it!

It starts as a fluffy enjoyable watch with cuties but gets much heavier. It's rather rushed and at times confusing, especially the allusions to a past life (if I understand correctly?), so I need to do a re-watch. Does it have a happy ending? Ostensibly very much not, although I'm still thinking about it.

It reminds me a bit of "Gelboys" - not at all in terms of story (no resemblance whatsoever) but because of its very original, youthful, urban vibe.

Thanks for recommending this one. I just finished it and I had it on my watchlist since I saw a reel of it. But I didn't watch it till now (Don't know why!!) Now that I have watched it, I really liked it!!  It was so good!!!

At first I was confused too but at last I realized it was a past life connection but still I have a confusion about  the amulet. I mean  in the past life when An (the ghost) was giving the amulet to Minh he said, " If you save her life. I swear I will take on all your misfortunes for you." And then Vanished. Then in the present, when Minh gave An back the amulet so his misfortune came back and that's why he died...? So did An remember everything from the past at that time ? or did he know from the very start ? I don't think he knew it from the starting but still I'm confused. Oh and one more thing Minh gave the amulet back to An, is that why they didn't meet again in next life (as I think it's  shown at last)? because the amulet was binding them together...?

You're welcome! It's such a timeless, beautiful song. I'm glad they brought it back in this series.

The original song is by Teresa Teng from the 70's

If you haven't seen Moonlight Chicken yet, this is the version that I mentioned, which is a cover from the series sung by Earth, Mix, First, Khaotung, Fourth, Gemini.

Thanks

(re "Situationship in the City") So glad you liked it, too!

or did he know from the very start ?

Good question. After watching the scene again, I'm inclined to say "no", but it's still confusing.

 notabookatleast:

Hmm, I didn't think about that, but your theory makes sense. (It's so helpful to talk about it like this, especially in the absence of MDL reviews/comments. I so wish they would add Vietnam!)

Basically, my overall interpretation is that it's a Buddhist parable about "don't mess with someone else's karma" (à la "Khemjira"), plus maybe (given the title) a sort of metaphor for the transitory and unsatisfying nature of modern-day "situationships".

Actually, my first thought about the final scene was more along the lines of "no good deed goes unpunished", with the good deed being when Minh gives the amulet to An - but that's superficial and doesn't consider the backstory.

P.S. A nice feature of both "Situationship in the City" and "Fight For Love" (see a few posts back) is that both of these Viet BLs are available on Youtube in UHD (i.e. 2K resolution). I wish everything would have that.

Yes, it's been officially added to the Gaga "Coming soon".

Blech!!!

Yeah same

Yeah we could've gotten other theories too !! Hope they add Vietnam too in future

Yeah you are right !! and I like that even though it was short it showed the nature of situationships. While I was watching it, I was thinking if it would be happy  or sad ending. But  it's kind  of open ending. Still I liked it.

Can you explain it a little bit? I didn't  understand it well 😅

Oh and also  I haven't watched "Fight for Love". How is it?

 notabookatleast:
Can you explain it a little bit?

I'm not sure whether you mean the expression or how I'm applying it to the closing scene - so in short: It's a cynical expression meaning that, rather than being rewarded, there can be unintended negative consequences to doing something nice (in this case, Minh giving An the amulet) - although usually not quite so negative as being run over and killed by a car.

 notabookatleast:

I love it - but it's more of a light, fluffy BL with the usual happy ending guarantee expected of such BLs, so it's nothing like "Situationship".

Anyone else as excited as me to find out what FortPeats new series is gonna be called and what it is gonna be about? 😁🥰💖😍
