GMMTV has posted the official trailer for "Melody of Secrets" (with Force & Book), and supposedly it will start on Dec. 5 - so that's another entry for the otherwise still rather thin calendar of December releases with concrete start dates. (Actually, I hope it stays thin so I can catch up on things.)
Yes, there is a lot to catch up on! This year has been so full of great (and not so great) content.
thank you for you detailed response to my post about LGBTQIA and BL content. I really appreciate your point of view. i may not be quite your generation but, yes, all the letters are definitely a new things. When I came out as “bi“ people said I was just confused. My spouse was always a butch lesbian, but is now realizing genderqueer or nonbinary fit them better. It’s hard to transition to new language, though, when we never had it to think about during our formative years. Plus our Boomer parents won’t even consider “they/them” as possible pronouns for my spouse because “that doesn’t make any sense.” So the struggles continue!
I can’t believe I forgot “queer!” It’s my favorite label because it‘s inclusive of so many variations. I know there are even more new terms out there for so many different experiences but it’s hard to even learn them all! I like the idea that we can each use what feels most comfortable for us, though.
i have been watching a lot of videos about both the history of BLs and also critical thinking about BLs and queer media. It’s super interesting to me but also useful because it reminds me to be more aware of certain issues so i don’t perpetuate negative behaviors but also still allows me to continue to love and appreciate BLs for what they offer.
if anyone is interested in videos like this, id be happy to share.
I don’t think anyone has ever talked about it here but one reason BLs were created and one reason I like them is because they don’t have women. (Duh!) but without female characters I can enjoy the love story free from pressure to measure up to certain female behavior or societal standards. Asexual and aromantic women also say it gives them distance so they can enjoy the story without personal pressure.
my mind is still in overdrive about this (ok, it’s in overdrive a lot!) but I’ll stop for now.
