dora:
I actually like romances where the couple is established early on, as long as there is an interesting story to keep the plot moving forward.
Dora was specifically referring (p. 2605) to "Melody of Secrets", which I haven't watched yet, but since RXinw (bottom of previous page) expanded on this with some interesting general comments, here's my two cents:
What tends to be most important to me in terms of the series trajectory is development, i.e. mainly the second half of Dora's sentence. The series can be love at first sight, or la chasse i.e. a lot of pursuit until the pursuer finally wins the heart of his target, or enemies to lovers, or finding one's reincarnated true love, or a slow burn, or a roller coaster, or the kind of trajectory that Dora and RXinw refer to, or whatever - so long as there's a good story that moves forward (and good acting, good execution and mos of all, cutie-patooties!).
When I think of my favourite BLs, there are all kinds of relationship (and character) trajectories, but I need to feel them moving forward, even if it's slow and subtle. I think it was Dora that said she didn't feel much happening in ep. 3 of "Duang", and although I love the series for all the cutie-patooties and fluffy feel-good, I agree that I didn't feel anything moving forward in ep. 3 (not that I'm worried yet - there are plenty more episodes remaining).
I agree also with RXinw's comment about the "traumatic penultimate [second to last] episode" followed by the satisfying resolution in the final episode, which became so predictable in many past BLs (especially Thai) as to become a slightly annoying trajectory cliché. (Although here as well, I can deal with my annoyance if there are cutie-patooties.)
End of my two cents.
