Oh my gosh, I know this guy: it's cutie-patootie Achi from "Water Boyy" (2017, i.e. one of GMMTV's earliest BLs). Left: then, right: now

Phew, I was worried for you. Enjoy the show!

Payback: I haven't finished the episode, but I'm in hysterics over the extras in the background of the bus scene. 🤭🤣🤣🤣

Does someone know what event he was on or what this is? What are the numbers for?

Is this, what I presume to be, win something big?

Or did something good/bad happen besides this. Maybe someone knows something about this because I am not that informed about everything.

I just finished today's final episode 5 of "Lost To Light" (iQiyi, average MDL rating 7.2 = underrated).

Yesterday I finished the final episode 16 of "Love Class S3" (Viki, average MDL rating 7.5).

Both series are somewhat flimsy, relatively short BL series based on striving idol stories, and both are cast with cutie-patooties. While I enjoyed "Love Class S3", with the flaws (below) offset by the cutie quality, I increasingly loved "Lost To Light", which was cute as heck.

Although it was enjoyable, "Love Class S3" had three major shortcomings:
(1) As with most other Thai-Korean transnational BLs, the language barrier was handled inadequately to the point of irritating distraction. They tried to use English as a bridge, but that likewise failed because Jaemin (the Korean), while magically understanding everything, seems to not speak a word of English (or Thai), while Khun (the Thai) speaks English with a heavy, difficult-to-understand accent, and although he magically seems to understand everything in Korean (including university classes), he speaks only a bit.
(2) They tried to pack in too much "story" in the three-hour runtime, making it feel rushed and at times forced.
(3) The conclusions to the two storylines somehow left me feeling less than satisfied.

Also, it had absolutely nothing to do with "Love Class" S1 or S2, and even the theme of the university love class was peripheral to the story - so why did label it "S3"? It's not as if the first two seasons were such huge successes.

In sum: I enjoyed the series, but it went somewhat downhill after a promising start, with too much jumping back and forth between storylines. For mostly novices, the actors were pretty good, and they felt like real striving idols because, in fact, they mostly are (idols or trainees). The episodes are very short, so it's not much of a time investment.

+++

"Lost To Light" started with a weak first episode that suggested "trainwreck coming" but got much better - and unlike "Love Class S3", there was a single, straightforward story that didn't try to be more than it was.

The cute but quirky characters were endearing, with a sweet group dynamic and some amusing moments. For mostly novices, the actors were reasonably good.

Some might criticise the copycat "Gelboys" vibe as a cheap and superficial knock-off, but I liked it.(Needless to say, "Gelboys" itself is in an entirely different dramatic league.)

At times it was quite funny, but there was one part of the comedy that really grated on me, which was the over-the-top "cat fight" stuff between the two rival ladies. Thankfully, that was just a few scenes. Otherwise, the comedy was alright.

I would've liked a "happy ever after" episode, but the conclusion was fine as it was.

In sum: A cute 'n sweet watch, if one doesn't take it too seriously. Underrated - at least for me.

While I didnt have time to watch the last episode of Lost To Light, (heard they were supposed to have 2 special episodes too?) I agree ho hardly with everything you said. I'm not as big of a fan of the drama as you but it definitely upgraded after episode 1 that I started liking it. Still a 7 (maybe 7.5 after I finish it) but it has its charm. While it had a Gelboy vibe, it didn't emulate the show. Gelboy did not trademark that style, but GB perfected it. While it's nice to have a well know drama to be able to tell people what to expect, I hope everyone doesn't start to think its a GB ripoff everytime someone uses this style.

Surprisingly, even though everything you said about LC3 is correct and I 100% agree, I still enjoyed it more. I think it has to do with the consistent quality (I alway knew what I would get) and the very short episodes (less than 15 minutes) so it made it easy to watch. A 7.5 for me.

Payback ep8

I don’t have it in me to write reviews of everything I’m watching, but I’ll just keep saying, so many good shows! A lot of them have been making me think. In particular, I think Payback leveled up even more this week, although I have loved it all along. Ok, both the scene on the bus—yes, the background characters were fabulous, and the NC scene were great. (Understatement.) But I also really loved Sun’s acting scenes. He portrayed suicide like someone who really understands how hard living is. When they changed the script for him, and had his character talk about the torture of living an emotionless life, I was so moved. As someone who often wishes I experienced less emotions, hearing him say that made me think about the blessing of being able to feel things deeply, and in turn being able to love deeply. Yes, it also means loss hits especially hard, but seeing Sun wish he could cry made me grateful that I can. Of course it’s too much sometimes, but it’s better than just going through the motions of living. Sun wants to cry for those he’s lost. So when Jay offers “to make him cry,” it adds another layer to the whole NC scene. It represents Sun finally allowing himself to admit his feelings for Jay, (which I think he’s had all along), as well as his need to feel, and feel deeply. It makes everything they do together that much more powerful. It’s not just about physical pleasure but about experiencing life, and experiencing it intensely. Sex can sometimes be a way to channel that need and find a way to release some of the emotions we’ve been holding inside. I definitely think Sun finally chooses this kind of experience of sex, and I think it’s a real breakthrough for his character.

So while the NC scene is certainly one of the hottest I’ve ever seen, it’s also an important turning point for the characters and the story. It’s also meant to drive home (no pun intended) the point that karma may, in fact, be playing a role in the lives of our characters. If so, then it could also foreshadow the “payback” this show is supposedly all about.
