Deep In : I just finished binge-watching it, and it was amazing. 10/10.
I was fully immersed from beginning to end. I loved both the main drama and the drama within the drama. Pulling that off must have been incredibly difficult, but because we got so many scenes from the in-universe drama, it worked perfectly. I actually wonder what the runtime ratio is between the main drama and the drama within the drama.
The switches between the two stories could have been confusing, but they were handled so well that I never felt lost. I also liked how the writing never felt lazy. Both stories avoided some cliché misunderstandings, which was a huge plus for me.
It's crazy that this was the first acting experience for both Ollie and Shu Yuan. Their performances were amazing, and their chemistry was perfect. Before starting the drama, I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to separate Ollie from the cutie he was on Boys Planet, but I had nothing to worry about.
I also liked that there wasn't a second couple. It allowed the story to stay focused on the main characters. The female characters weren't overly annoying either. Zhang Zhun's ex-girlfriend could easily have caused trouble for him, but instead she helped him and stayed by his grandma's side.
ETA : I also really liked that the final scene of the BL within the drama was the only one without the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. It really made me feel like that scene could belong to both stories.
The OST is really good too. I have it on repeat.
This is only the second BL I've ever given a 10/10, after Me and Thee, and the two dramas couldn't be more different.
I think it might be too much for me to binge-watch Payback tomorrow like I had planned after watching something this good today. 😆
