Nour eps 1 - 3
I really enjoyed this. I think both couples have chemistry, although Inspector Ken is so restrained it’s sometimes hard to read him. (I think that’s the idea, though.) I love seeing Tongtong, who played the brother always throwing tantrums in The Wicked Game, playing such a radically different and emotionally subtle role. Inspector James is the closest character to the audience’s point of view, although he has advantages over us, like being able to sense people through colors and being able to detect lies. I like the idea someone mentioned in the MDL page comments that maybe his dad was Nour.I don’t find Chita suspect. I think it’s Dr. Ji who’s hiding who he really is. At the very least, he’s hiding what he knows because it’s clear he’s aware that Inspector Ken is Nour.i agree that Dr. Ji’s wipe down of lot of Chita was one of the hottest we have seen in a long time. It’s nice to know an overplayed trope can still surprise and impress us.
It’s a bit frustrating to me that so much information is still being withheld from the audience. I worry that the reveal will not match the build up. Nonetheless, I loved the show’s feel. I thought the muted colors and the music—especially the end credits song in episode 3–really added to our sense of the world we are watching.
I was frustrated that I couldn’t tell what was going on in all the action sequences, but they were fun nonetheless. I like supernatural characters and crime procedurals, and they can make a great combo if done well.
I’m not convinced the mystery will be all that interesting or that the explanations of the Nour will be anything new, but as long as the show keeps its dark and sexy feel, with ongoing secrets for us to discover, I’m fully on board for the ride.
I couldn’t help but feel sorry that Boom Raveewit was removed from this production. I kept thinking that he would’ve been really good in this. But I still like the cast.
I’m going to look up the air date schedule because this seems very Chinese to give us three episodes in the first week. I want to know if it’s just one a week from here on out.
Update: according to Reddit it’s just one episode every Wednesday from now on. 10 episodes total.
