GMMTV announcement, controversy?
I just got back from work so I haven't had the time to look at the GMMTV lineup, however first thing that popped into my IG feed is that there seems to be some kind of controversy at least amongst some fans about the amount of bromances and people demanding to boycott for company. And yes I get it, that in terms of queer representation bromances are really problematic, however has GMMTV ever actually exclusively branded themselves as production company focusing only on queer shows? They certainly have made a lot of money from the genre, but I am not familiar enough with the company's history to know how significant part especially BL has played in their business history.
My take on the amount of bromances (if it is true their amount has significantly increased) is that GMMTV is probably looking to expand even more into mainland Chinese market, and because of the censorship laws bromances are much easier to publish there. It could also genuinely be that there is more competition now in BL production which is pushing them to look more revenue streams from other categories.
Thoughts?
