How do I say this without spoiling? Hmm ... yeah, you should watch it and stay patient till the end.

"Our Dating Sim (Movie)" (South Korea, 2023) dropped today. As expected with the movie versions, some scenes from the series were edited out, and some sequences were altered slightly, but otherwise it's the same cute drama it always was.

Unfortunately, the MDL page has not been updated, so I am unable to mark it as completed.

 p43425:

Good point. I was thinking that "Our Dating Sim" was 2022.

I really loved and was deeply moved by the Li Ming / Heart storyline in "Moonlight Chicken". I get teary just thinking about it! The other two storylines were admittedly less original and extraordinary.

I've not yet watched "Only Friends", so I guess I'll have to watch that next ... oh wait, I already promised to watch "Once Again" next!

If the central story line of Moonlight Chicken is less original, what are some equally good ones with a world-weary protagonist who's been worn down by life? That part especially spoke to me and I loved how much support they all gave each other and the overall emotional intelligence and honesty of it.

Yes. They aren't left alone in their pain. No one is. It's really good that way. And watch the Behind the Scenes too, it's not just the characters who take care of each other. The actors do as well.

You're absolutely right.  My bad choice of words. I guess I should have just said: The secondary Li Ming / Heart storyline and love story is so original and extraordinary and compelling that the main storyline and love story, although also original and compelling, necessarily pale by comparison.

I also like the authenticity of Thai series like "Moonlight Chicken" with normal people (e.g. Jim) living in modest circumstances and struggling with real life problems (e.g. Jim's restaurant), rather than the Thai infatuation with the rich and powerful seen in so many Thai series (e.g. rich university student living in super luxury condo and driving a $300,000 sports car paid by daddy).

I completely feel that!  I mean sometimes it's nice to watch a Cinderella style fantasy but not EVERY time.  I am always so happy when they just give us a beautiful walk of normal life where two people learn the meaning of love together, all the trials and troubles it brings but also all the beauty and tenderness it gives.  I think it's why I still cannot get over the I Told Sunset About You/I Promised You The Moon series.  I might need to re-watch Moonlight Chicken since I watch so many series sometimes it takes 2-3 watches before I really anchor in their main shining points unless they are exceptional.

 Chun Mo Rionnag:
"Our Dating Sim " remains No. 1 on my BL list for 2023 after "To My Star 2 (Movie)" which technically probably doesn't count since it's a director's cut of the series from 2022.

Yes, yes and more yes!  I have Semantic Error and Our Dating Sim sitting side by side in my heart, To My Star(both) as a wonderful second...a perfect Korean bouquet of love for me!

Yes, perfect example of what I mean about authenticity and normal people in modest circumstances, especially in the first series ("Sunset"). Another Thai example which likewise gets away from glamorous Bangkok and instead shows real life in a quiet provincial town: "Remember Me", which I really really liked - in spite of the famously bad wigs, fake-looking pimples, and various other weaknesses, especially in the secondary storylines.

Oh I see! I visited your profile and we have some things in common.

I'm a STAY!! One of my all-time favorite BL series is Not Me.  I also enjoy the same drama genres. And I'm an artist too.

I love your profile set-up.  Your rating chart is fun. Would it be bad of me if I added a flag counter to my profile too?
