You're absolutely right.  My bad choice of words. I guess I should have just said: The secondary Li Ming / Heart storyline and love story is so original and extraordinary and compelling that the main storyline and love story, although also original and compelling, necessarily pales by comparison.

I also like the authenticity of Thai series like "Moonlight Chicken" with normal people (e.g. Jim) living in modest circumstances and struggling with real life problems (e.g. Jim's restaurant), rather than the Thai infatuation with the rich and powerful seen in so many Thai series (e.g. rich university student living in super luxury condo and driving a $300,000 sports car paid by daddy).

Yes :) And the small details like Wen's sweat stained shirt.

This series in particular has such an enormous heart there's room for all of us to find what we need in it.

I wish I could help but I'm muddling through it myself in the "Settings" page, wondering how to add an image. The image prompt seems to want an internet link, which doesn't make sense to me.  My images are on my desktop.  🙃

Wow, thank you so much!

 Elisheva:
And watch the Behind the Scenes too, it's not just the characters who take care of each other. The actors do as well.

(Referring to "Moonlight Chicken: Behind The Scenes")
Thanks for the tip. I tend not to bother with "behind the scenes" because many of them are rather a waste of time (too long, too much blah blah, too much repetition from actual series) - but this one was really good. It's so interesting to see the actors on the set, practising and hanging around and naturally interacting with each other - not to mention the amazing P’Aof in action. It also shows how much time and hard work it is to produce a good series!

New winner for "Worst BL of 2023" ?

This blog has suddenly gone too quiet. Time to make some more noise ...

In May, a Cambodian production company called "KooL Play" posted a high-quality trailer for a Khmer BL called "My Croissant", which looks very promising in a cute fluffy Thai kind of way. Four months later, still nothing. Does anyone know if and when this series might be released? I would be very excited to see something good out of Cambodia ... and sad if this project has been shelved.

Did you see there's an email address and social media contacts on their channel page? I hope this does get made.

I'm feeling over-saturated with young men at university so I've started watching.... A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College, which is one woman student at an otherwise male university. Except it's unidentified-dynasty China instead of present-day Thailand. I'm laughing at my subconscious' inability to move far from our safe space and my instincts to ship the male lead (he knew her brother, now deceased, but is hiding something and every time she asks him, it seems abundantly obvious that OF COURSE they were lovers, how could it be ANYTHING else?) and figure out who amongst the many young men the second couple will be. This is an odd way to watch a het romance :) I suspect it would be better if it were indeed BL, but you know, China, and the actual plot won't let me ship it that way for long. Anyway, one for the You know you've been watching too much (no such thing) BL column :) I think I've nearly talked myself into jumping into A Tale of A Thousand Stars now.

There are BLs which are set outside of a school or university.

Wow, today's Episode 6 of "Taikan Yohou" (Gaga/Viki: "My Personal Weatherman") was sooo good.

Yes of course. p4325 wanted some noise here so I shared a laugh over the way my new BL habit has already changed my default assumptions with non-BL dramas. Which is a good thing imo, always useful to shake up the defaults.

Yes ... and I very much appreciated your amusing response! :-)

What a coincidence! I was also thinking of diving into "Tale of Thousand Stars" (Viki: "1000 Stars)" as my next one.

No, I've not tried to contact KooL Play directly. I'm shy.

I still haven't watched it but I just KNOW it will be good, like all the episodes. anyway, I am really excited for Sakazaki meeting Oh's friend.
