Might it have something to do with the video transfer? On Bilibili, I found that the picture quality of the uploads of these episodes varied considerably and that some looked a bit bleached out. In any case, now that the final episode has aired in Japan, I hope that an official international release of this superb series will be announced - and that the picture will be sunnier and less dank.

I watched it on the "SawasdeePlus" channel of Bibibili.tv, with reasonably good picture quality and acceptable subtitles - although with a lot of wrong English pronoun inferences, so you sometimes have to think about what the English pronouns should really be. It's missing Episode 3, which can be found on another channel such as "BL Drive".

I don't have access to SawasdeePlus, at least not without setting up an account and probably installing the app on my mac. Would that be safe? My browser doesn't seem to like the Bibibili.tv site and blocks entry. I'm not very techie, but usually manage to get by.

I think the issue is it's a Spanish site, so you have double translation: from Japanese to Spanish, then Spanish to English.
At the risk of sounding ignorant, what and where is fansubbing? I'm aware of the term. Is this where dramas are found on alternative websites?
A fan subber is a drama fan who translates for free to an exclusive list of subscribers.
A lot of dramas never get international release, because it's not commercially worthwhile for overseas networks to buy them, so fansubbers do the work instead. Japan is notorious for not exporting its productions so there are fansubbers who spend their time translating J-dramas and adding subtitles. There are fansubbers for other languages as well. Viki uses volunteer translators, too, some of which are also fansubbers subtitling dramas that never appear on commercial streaming services.
Given their experience, a lot of fansubbers are pretty good with their subtitling and synching skills. There are collectives all over the internet where fansubbers share their experience and knowledge.
Ai Di was not exactly playing "hard to get"; he was sure that Chen Yi was still in love with the boss and could never see him as more than a little brother. Ai Di needed a lot of convincing after years of being rejected.
He wasnt being rejected on purpose though since he never fully came out and told Chen Yi he liked him until the whole intimacy part. I might be the odd one here but I dont feel like he fully liked the boss like everyone thinks he did. I think there was a crush but I dont think he really loved him. He also kept going to the boss every time the boss called because he was training to become the boss once the other retired and I think that part didnt help.

Ahhh, then that's pretty definitive. (Can you follow the Japanese without subtitles? I know some Japanese, but wow - if so, I'm impressed.) Unfortunately, Netflix (like Iqiyi) seems to look at where the account is registered, so VPN seems not to overcome geo-blocking.

Ahhh, interesting point. But still, I think the bigger issue that I've noticed with their AI-generated subtitles is that the English pronouns are often wrong - undoubtedly where Japanese omits the pronoun.
Yes, I fully understand - especially for those who aren't English native speakers! Let's hope that there's an official release soon.
For me it's not an issue of English not being my first language, but more the fact that most of the phrases didn't make any sense.
I get that AI translates based on the original language, so I had no issue with the characters referring to themselves with their own names (e.g. "Kakeru loves icecream" said by Kakeru), it's fine. It was more like I could get the context in Japanese, but then the translation was misleading and I got confused (plus a headache).
I get easily frustrated when things are messy (audio not in synch with the subs, AI generated subs etc).
Same goes for low quality video/audio, that's why I looove watching series on official networks.

I only watch Bilibili and Iqiyi on my PC browser. I personally would not install an app for either of these. (I do, however, trust the Viki and Gaga Android apps - although even with these, I use virtual credit card numbers just to be extra safe.) My Bilibili account uses one of my dummy e-mail addresses, so there's not much they can do with that - and in fact, I've not yet gotten any spam whatsoever to that address. So I think it's pretty low risk.

Thank you so much! I also think this was an exceptional case, and probably the last one for 2023 at least ('cause I really can't stand this situation with subtitles and quality). I'm grateful for independent fansubbers, always! But in this case it was a bit difficult for me.
I didn't mean it in a "braggy" way xD it's just that I think it's already really difficult when you understand English quite well, I cannot imagine for people who are struggling a bit (so yeah, we were saying the same thing, I guess XD).
I hope it will be picked up by Netflix also in Europe, if possible (but I guess it's easier for Gaga, maybe).
