For BL Gaga & Viki seem to be  the way to go. WeTv /Tencent & Iqiyi (might be worth it if you watch a lotof c-dramas to)  have a few as well. The rest are likely on YouTube. Watching JBLs legally is kind of hard though lol. It depends on your budget and region availability really.

I don't have much mulla to spare so the thought was to pick just one good service and be happy with what I can have. :-) Sound like Gaga is a pretty good pick.

Thank you for your help!

GagaOoLala is the one I'll subscribe to first, to support queer content and their work. I wonder if it might not make sense to have a separate thread for the service rather than making this one thread do everything?

I didn't consider making another thread since services for BL content felt like a similar topic to what is being discussed here. But I don't mind either way... :-) Is there a moderator for threads/discussions?

There are so many threads for het dramas (and those endless games that take over the "Hottest Discussions" trends) we can have some more for BL. Conversations would stay active longer so there would be more for new and less active participants to join in on. IMO we're trying to do too much in this one thread.

The forums seem well enough moderated but I'm guessing mods are working from reports rather than reading everything themselves.

I think it would be a good thing to make additional queer space inclusive of all the countries and I haven't thought of a better sub-topic to try it with.

There are other threads in these fora about BLs, but they tend to get lost in the ether as no-one really pays attention. This is (I think) partly the reason the BL series threads for each country are sticky posts. To be fair, this thread is quiet a lot of the time, too.

A quick fora search for BL, or a series name will bring up threads you can peruse if you are so interested. Some drama pages have discussion posts attached, too.

"additional queer space inclusive of all the countries"....

but never mind

"additional queer space inclusive of all the countries"....

The threads on the MDL Discord server are labelled "LGBTQ" under each country channel and there is a general "LGBTQ" thread for those cross-country discussions.*  Is that the kind of thing you mean? There are threads like that on here, but, again, these generally aren't active and get buried.

You can always start your own thread and see if it garners activity.

I'm thinking about subscribing to GagaOoLala, if it would provide a wider scope of choices. I have Viki and Netflixs, but both seem limited, based on how many dramas/series I hear about but can't watch!

Although there's some overlap between Viki and Gaga, each has advantages.

Viki is technically the best platform. Almost entirely Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Thailand. The many BLs which it has are generally high quality. Although I mainly use it for BLs, I sometimes also enjoy Viki for high-quality non-BLs. I also appreciate the tightly moderated viewer reviews.

Gaga is entirely LGBTQ+ (including also non-Asian). It has a huge amount of BL/gay content not found elsewhere - some of it excellent, some not so good. The platform sometimes has minor technical deficiencies, and it tends to remove content more often than I would like.

I recently added iQiyi because it seems to have more and more BLs not available elsewhere, including some really good ones. Needless to say, lots of non-BL Asian, especially Chinese.

So I have all three (along with Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime - although these have almost zero Asian BL, at least in my country). If you forced me to pick just one, I would choose Viki - but I'm very happy to pay for all three. On an annual basis, it's not that much per day.

I personally think this forum is just fine as it is. You are a nice group!!!

As someone who watches a lot of BL (it was so nice when I discovered it) it’s nixie to stumble upon this thread.

Thank you for your feedback! I forgot I have access to Amazon Prime as well, but yeah, I haven't seen much BL on their site either. I noticed Viki reviewers are less strict with their ratings than here on MDL.

It's been years since I've watched a non-Asian or an American movie or series. (I started with Bollywood movies way back when, lol). I don't pay for regular TV programs here in the US and could care less what's airing here. All this to say that it might be worth it to subscribe to another Asian service to maybe fill a bit of a gap.

Overall, I really enjoy Viki too and think it's a very good service.

None of them have. I don't use discord and you or someone else told me earlier that it eats CPU on a computer so best used on a phone. I'm housebound because of chronic illness so I'm not in the habit of keeping a phone charged or using one.

Sorry for saying anything. This thread doesn't work for me as well as it does for the rest of you but there's no point in doing anything different if you're all happy.

Just FYI, you can also use Discord through a browser if you're worried about the program itself using up your CPU.  Create an account, go to Discord website on your browser, and just log in.  No need to install anything.

I have Viki, Iqiyi, Gagaoolala and WeTv and Viki is definitely the best in terms of BL productions available on this platform plus technically is also on pretty high level. Gagaoolala was my second favourite for a long time, but recently Iqiyi took the second spot as Gagaoolala has too many low quality movies and series. WeTv is the worst in both aspectcs: technical and content and I'm not going to extend my subscription.

I don't have WeTV for exactly the reasons you say. Otherwise, I agree completely - except for one important qualification: Although Gaga indeed has too much junk stuff, it also has exclusives on some really excellent content, especially Japanese (e.g. "Minato", "If It's With You", "Jack O'Frost", "Our Dining Table") - which is ironic because Viki/Rakuten is Japanese, while Gaga is Taiwanese. Yes, I'm pleasantly surprised at how Chinese-owned iQiyi has become a major platform for BL - but I'm still very glad to have my Gaga!

The nice thing with Gaga is that everything on there is queer media generally. Though yeah, a lot of mediocre titles. But their exclusives are great, especially the Japanese BLs.

I find Viki to have slightly better subs and a bit more fun with the comments,  but tends to have less BLs (more mainstream dramas though).

I feel like iQiyi has some great Bls that air first on there.

Thus, I can’t unsubscribe from any of them lol.

I cancelled other mainstream (and more expensive) subscriptions so I could pay for Gaga, Viki and iQiyi since I spend much more time watching these. Each one offers unique things and I like them for different reasons.  Well worth the money.
