 RiqueXinw:

I have never watched the Japanese version, but I have seen enough clips to have a general idea of the plot and how it ended.

30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii  (Japanese original of Cherry Magic) is one of my early BL dramas, so I have fond memories of it and I may not be very objective, but it rates as one of my all-time favs. But sooo many others since then are as well. lol.

 Sruthipriya mahesh:

I personally like the japansese version very, very much and that is a huge understatement. I havent watched the thai version so i dont know what to say, but i can tell atleast tell you this - Its one of the greatest, sweetest, fluffy BLs ever and you are missing out on too much if you havent watched it yet...

I have great hopes for Cherry Magic (Thai version) after the first episode. One of my top favorites I'll be looking forward to each week.

Thanks! It looks very promising! I can't wait.

Of the currently airing BLs you're watching, what are your favourites?

I like "Night Dream" (Thailand) very much even though we are only one episode in. "The Sign" (Thailand) is intriguing with a combination of genres and high production values, but "Last Twilight" (Thailand) with its original script has captured my attention.

Honourable mention goes to "City Boy Log" (South Korea) who seem to have put together their own drama to showcase their talents for auditions opting for the BL genre. [Caveat: the episode that came out this week, "Audition Fail" was high cringe.]

Thanks for the nudge. I saw the trailer on Youtube a few days ago and liked it - but didn't pursue when I saw it was only on Youku (which I assume is where you're watching it???). Now I will definitely watch it - but I think I'll wait till all the episodes are out, then pay for just one month. (Side question: I'm puzzled why the Youku platform looks so very similar to iQiyi. They seem to belong to competing groups, Alibaba and Baidu - or do you know if there's some connection between them?)

Thanks! I can't wait either! :)

My nominations for best BL parents are Minoru and Tane's dad in Bokura no Shokutaku and Thun's mom in He's Coming for Me.

Yours?

I think the parents from My School President are good contenders.

 Elisheva:
My nominations for best BL parents

Interesting topic - and Elisheva and Saygo, good nominations! Where parents are important characters in BLs, the roles tend to be either angels or demons, so my list of nominations of either best or worst BL parents could be very long.

Also, the contrast between good and bad parents (or rich vs. poor) can be an effective dramatic device, for example in "About Youth": Ye Guang's horrible (albeit exaggerated), rich but cold-hearted parents contrasted with Qi Zhang's absolutely fantastic, poor but warm-hearted widowed mom ("Mama Xu"), who adds so much to the series with her sunny,  uplifting personality.

And then there are the grandmothers (e.g. Peach's charming grandmother, who is a highlight in the otherwise rather mediocre "Bake Me Please"), adoptive parents (e.g. Gui's loving orphanage "Mother" in "Oxygen") and pseudo-parents (e.g. the heart-warming constructive family in "Stay With Me"). I'd better stop here or this will be a very long post!

Go on :) It's been quiet here and this is something everyone can join in on, even if it's just I saw this and liked the parent.

I like the idea of focusing more on best of the best than worst of the worst, cause the world is difficult enough these days. Or taking it on a tangent to a series like Moonlight Chicken, where the mums are muddling through life like all of the other characters, often getting it wrong but still trying.

@p43425 - have you seen 55:15? I think you might resonate very strongly with part of it.

Thanks for the tip! Somehow that never made it onto my radar, even though it's Nanon. It's now on my list, priority "high".

Yes, definitely - but as I wrote, some series use the contrast between good and bad characters to underscore how good the good ones are and not just take them for granted.

 Elisheva:
Go on :)

OK, then how about Pete's loving, supportive mom in "Love By Chance"? Or since you mentioned "Moonlight Chicken", Gaipa's sadly memorable mom? This list could go on and on ...

 Elisheva:
Yours

that one grandma in "Laws of Attraction" is a real queen

Greetings from the Founder of the BL Drama Lovers Club,

I just wanted to hop on here and check in with you all. 2023 has been such a great and chaotically transformative year for me. I hope this year has treated you well and if not, I hope things start looking up for you :) --- Any of the OGs know that I am merely just an overseer and update every now and then on here. This club is mainly run by its members and I love it that way. I started this club merely because I love BL and I saw that there was no community on MDL for BL lovers. I am a certified lurker so when I do come on here, I read through as many comments as I can. I appreciate that everyone is so respectful on here. I never have to worry about things getting out of hand. I am glad to see that the club is still going strong (despite its ebbs and flows). I am grateful that the club has brought much joy and information to everyone. It makes me so happy as well to see a lot of profiles with banners and badges from this club. I LOVE how diverse this community is!!! We have members from all over the world here and that warms my heart.

I have just updated the Member's List and right now, we have 433 members. I hope this club continues to grow in the new year. I am thankful for everyone. Whether you are a member who posts consistently, a lurker, or someone who posts every now and again. Y'all are ALL so important to helping this community continue to thrive.

If anyone ever has any questions on here, do not be afraid to message me. If you don't see your name on the Member's List, please let me know. Also, I noticed that some people (including myself) don't like constant notifications from this group and other groups on their MDL. There is a small black drop down arrow and it gives you the option to subscribe or unsubscribe. That is the only way I know to start and stop notifications but of course you can still view and comment in the club forum.

I hope everyone is having a nice holiday season!!!

You're welcome. I've just finished the 10th episode (out of 16) and Nanon is fantastic in this role. His character is het but anyone who stans him should watch this for his acting. I have mixed feelings about what they're doing with Khaotung's story line, hope they don't mess it up as his character has been my favourite. Going to shut up now as there are fun BL-genre things I don't want to give away.

Yes, Mrs Hong <3

I haven't seen a lot of the ones people are mentioning yet. I only found BL in July, have a lot of catching up to do. More for my watch list.

Adding in Akk's parents from the Eclipse and the way his mum just hugged him tight whilst his dad said the right things.

Hi and thanks for this club. I hope you have a safe & happy holiday!
