How about a drama that centers on kids...? I watch mostly Korean and Thai dramas and I have observed that child actors were mostly utilized as younger versions of an adult character. Sure there are teen/coming-of-age dramas such as Racket Boys, The Gifted, etc.  But I think there's hardly any dramas that cast kids (or group of kids; ages 12 below) as main leads. We can see that they're talented enough and it's such a waste to not see them take lead.

I don't know, maybe because of child labor laws that's why there are hardly any dramas like this (though in Philippines there were such dramas) or maybe there are but I just haven't discovered yet.

But yeah, I want to see dramas that centers on kids life for a change...

Or even just characters with children. They're always like a last few episodes sort of thing. It'd be nice to have more family-oriented romances and life dramas.

I would love to see some poly, ace, and aro rep.

That would be nice as well...

I agree with this!!! I wasn't really that openminded about poly until I have watched 3 Will Be Free. It's just unfortunate that we don't see representations like this that often. Dramas are an eye-opener so it'll be good to have more that tackles those themes.

That's an interesting one. The closest one can get with kids taking substantial roles would be family dramas, I think. Of course, there will still be the parents as the leads.. Googled and found a few family kdramas. https://www.soompi.com/article/1534736wpp/7-family-friendly-k-dramas-to-watch-with-your-parents

There are perhaps more kids-centred dramas meant for kids to watch?

Agree with this so much!! I also agree about the kids too. There's some dramas I've seen with younger side characters and they do well. I'd love to see their stories explored a little further than they ever do.

I'd also like to see more just downright silly content like The Sound of Your Heart. I feel like that show is like short skits centered around one family (I haven't seen the sequel or spin-off). I very rarely laugh out loud or cry laughing like I did while watching that.

Philippines produces a lot of these types of dramas especially in 2000s which either centers on family and/or religion such as May Bukas Pa, Ikaw ay Pag-ibig, Momay, and Mga Anghel na Walang Langit, or superheroes such as Super Inggo, Kung Fu Kids, and Fantastikids. Even though it's meant for kids, it can still be enjoyed by adults. But I think they rarely produces something like these nowadays, and Korea and Thailand often let kids act as side characters... that's why I want to see something like these in the future.

I would like to see more  representation of cultures, disabilities and sexual orientation  as a main character. We have recently had the drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Move to Heaven that have both better representations of being on the Spectrum. Maybe even someone from a different culture being an important side character or main character. It would be cool to have someone with a physical disability being a main in a Korean drama.

Thank you for the responses. Please keep them coming even as we press on with the EOY challenge with a daily new list.

Yes and no.

I watched a lot of good dramas. But they were mostly titles released in previous years.

2022's dramas often started off great and promising, but disappointed or flat-out betrayed themselves in the final few episodes. It seemed like a lot of 2022 releases lost track of what conflicts/characters they had already set up and took a U-turn into cliches right at the end, which often contradicted what had already been set up. Or started dragging, because the plot didn't require as many episodes as they had it slotted for.

But I did like some of the diversity shining through with some of them. Intersex Conditions. Asexuality. Autism. BDSM. Mental Health. Aging. Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. Wheelchair Users. These are all topics I found in 2022 dramas that you really don't see much of in dramaland. So I liked that. And there was a lot of Friends-To-Lovers and Hidden Identity stories released this year (even though most wound up pretty poorly executed at the end), which are 2 of my favorite tropes.

Not really... 2021 was the year I started asian dramas so it went well... 2022 wasn't so great. I mean I got into Thai dramas which is a good thing but I was often a drama slump during this year. Especially during the second half of the year. The dramas that aired this year weren't so appealing, I don't know if it's just me, which is why I am not having huge expectations for 2023 dramas. I don't want to have a huge expectation and then the drama turning out to be bad. I just want myself to enjoy 2023 dramas and I hope they are good. I did like some 2022 dramas though, but I don't really trust dramas these days till they air fully so that I know what's gonna be the ending. I'm kind of missing the fun of commenting often during airing dramas and making assumptions sadly but I guess waiting for the drama to fully air and knowing if the drama was good is a better option for someone who hates dropping dramas..

You could find yourself a drama buddy to watch completed dramas with. And y'all either do watch parties and comment as y'all are watching, or send messages/personal feeds posts back and forth as y'all finish episodes.

It wasn't a good year, most dramas I've watched in 2022 were average and very few were memorable.

That's actually a really good idea! I'll try it sometime, thank you!
