What's up with the floor?

This has been bugging me ever since I watched my first historical korean drama - what's up with the floor? It looks like a plastic mat, but that can't be right, right? Aren't these dramas often shot at actual historic sites? 

Anyways, anyone know what the floor is made of?

Hmm, I hadn't yet really thought about it thoroughly, and always interpreted the floors in traditional homes as a korean kind of tatami. Tatami is japanese, and they're these straw woven mats -- do the floors you have in mind look like this?

I'm not sure at all, and I may be making a huge country confusion... Never had really paid attention, though I will next time! ;^)

I'm guessing you've seen a paper floor? They tend to be oiled/polished which makes that shiny look. A room with ondol heating would have that, since the floor underneath is made of stone and clay and, well, bare stone floors aren't the greatest for living areas.

It's not tatami mats. I haven't seen much of those in korean dramas from what I can remember. Think that's more of a japanese thing.

Haven't seen paper floors before. Will investigate :D
