Let's talk about the first GL drama you saw. If it wasn't an asian drama, how did you end up here and which one had you coming back for more?

Mine was Buffy the vampire slayer. 🤭 That brings back memories. There was also a French horror movie I watched a long time ago but I don't really remember much about it. I kind of got here because of BL actually. My first asian GL was a horrible forgettable experience that happened in 2020, but I'm not one to give up so I kept trying a GL every year or so until 2024 when I finally started seeing good ones come out.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is such an iconic way to get into GL. 😆I haven't really watched GL series before. My exposure to GL has mostly been through fanfiction and indie comic stories, but I saw the cover for Four Elements: The Water earlier this year and decided to check it out upon release. I've been really enjoying the first episodes. Right now I'm also watching GAP with a friend. I can't say I'm enjoying it as much, but it's a fun one to watch with others!

"The L Word" is my first drama I think. "Yes or No" and "1448 Love Among Us" are my earliest sapphic cinema. Since I'm half-Thai, living in SE Asia, I basically watched Thai drama since I was a kid, so watching the Thai GL scene expand to what it is today isn't something really new, but of course something to be proud of.

Oh my, I have no idea. Maybe "Hormones" (2013)? But that was such a long time ago! There was a wlw couple there and I remember being so happy about it! Ay, Buffy is such a great response. "The L Word" also had me in its clutches. I am so excited that there are so many GLs now being made (and that they have happy endings too!).

The first non- "The L Word" would be "The Gap". How I ended up here is after watching "Harmony Secret" -> "The 4 Elements" and started wondering what other dramas are out there.

Probably Buffy as well. I'm not even sure what the first show I watched that was exclusively GL focused was, because I watched a lot of them starting from when I was 15. This definitely included some Asian movies, but I couldn't tell you what the first one I watched might be. The first GL series from Asia I watched was Revolutionary Girl Utena, but that's an anime. First live-action GL series (or series I thought was GL) from Asia was Yuri Dano Kan Dano - note that I dropped it and rated it 1/10 once I made my account here.

I've watched several other Asian dramas that had GL elements or subtext, but the first actual GL romance series from Asia I watched was Reverse 4 You. I LOVED that one, but didn't seek out more because my impression (which turned out to be false) was that most of them were on paywalled sites like GagaOOLala (this is bc I mostly heard about Japanese GLs and not ones from other countries).

Then I watched Friendly Rivalry (to date my favorite Asian GL series), completely by coincidence without knowing it had GL elements going into it. And I loved that one so much, I got a little involved with the community around it on tumblr. There was this one user who said it had "more character development in the first ten minutes than in the entirety of The Loyal Pin." I looked up The Loyal Pin bc I was curious what it was; it sounded interesting, and I found out it was free on YouTube, so I watched it (I thought it was decent, though nowhere near on the level of Friendly Rivalry or even Reverse 4 You). Then I checked out the channel and found out it had a bunch of other GLs I could watch for free, and by the time I finished watching those, YouTube was recommending me so much free Thai GL content, I knew I wasn't going to run out.
