Hello, I need to ask a question; this board is active, so hopefully someone can give me an answer.
What was the timespan of the story? I'm having trouble pinpoint how much time has passed. And how old are these characters if we are talking normal human ages?
I'm not sure if this was what you were looking for, but here's some more posts about the character ages.
From liddi:
As such, Feng Long appeared to have studied together with Jing, but does not imply that they were of similar ages. My interpretation is that he learnt the ropes of the business world with and from Jing, hence his statement that Jing was his teacher as well as his friend.
I don't think the novel ever mentioned how much older Jing is from Xiao Yao. However, in Ep26 of the drama, when Jing called her "older sister", Xiao Yao blustered and said that Jing was older than her by over 100 years old "你比我大上百岁呢". In addition, Jing mentioned that he and Hou had a good brother relationship for over 400 years before he was ambushed, so what Xiao Yao said tallies.
In which case, Jing would be older than Feng Long by almost 180 years, if not more.
Based on age, Xiang Liu is the oldest (he had already survived the death match arena, escaped to the North Pole for over 100 years, before returning and living as Fangfeng Bei for 400 years. As such, he would most likely be older than Jing by at least 300 years.
So in terms of age, Xiang Liu is the oldest, followed by Jing, then Xiao Yao and Cang Xuan (similar ages), with Feng Long being the youngest.
From AH:
With that knowledge, XY also estimated in chapter 23 that XL would have escaped from the death match arena between 500 and 600 years prior.
-----
Koala's translation of chapter 23:
Xiao Yao watched his departing figure and suddenly thought about five or six hundred years ago when Xiang Liu escaped the slave death match arena. He ought to have been a young man just like him [Left Ear], but already so world-weary and beaten down, so broken and battered. But like a newborn baby, whatever and whomever he encountered would direct the course of his life going forward.
But…. she wasn’t even born yet back then!
-----
I wonder how old XL was when he entered the death match arena? I assume he was old enough to have cultivated a humanoid form. Maybe somewhere in the realm of 200? And I wonder how long he was there before he escaped? My gut feeling has always been that he was there for years, but not as long as Left Ear (since XL left by escaping and was pursued, while Left Ear endured for 40 years as part of a bargain for his freedom).
From H19279
Tushan Zhen was born in chapter 26. Then XY engaged with FL in chapter 28. Engagement time was about 6.5 years until the marriage. Then 1 month in QS and XY returned to meet Jing. Did it take about 2 years until TSH and FFYY was caught? Jing waited for 3 years until he proposed XY + 42 years of engagement + 7 year missing = ~60 years (deity age)
XY stayed in Jade mountain for 70 years, thus when she left Jade Mountain, she was older than 80 years old. And she was still a kid at that time.
Therefore, Tu Shan Zhen was still a kid by the time TSJ married XY

Thank you for the detailed response.
I figured that Xiang Liu was older than the rest, if nothing more than because he was more mature than the lot of them and seemed to have dealt with his awful experiences, while they are still wallowing in them. Although, age isn't always a good indicator of maturity or dealing with problems.
and I'm thinking she spent 100 to 150 years from meeting Xiang Liu to his deathKokuto:
And now I'm all spoiled :-). But, not really surprising given all the foreshadowing.
And 100-150 years is a long time not to be dealing with your problems. At least up to where I've watched.
Did you finish Season 2? Did it leave you with a better opinion of the drama?Kokuto:
Not yet. I've put it on hold to finish Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, and that drama can't be watched while scrolling social media. I can only deal with one drama needing focused attention at a time. It needs to be balanced out with a fluff piece that I can watch without too much thinking.
I will come back to Lost You Forever. I've committed to watching and giving someone my opinion, so I will see it through. I need to watch it with my brain fully engaged if I'm going to give any kind of opinions that are worth a damn.
Kokuto:
Yes, that's why he continued to drink her blood. But he had no idea that was the case the first time he did it. So, why did he do it the first time? It might not be a regular habit, but I think it is something he had done more than once.
I think it was more like an attack move that comes from his demon/animal side. Using his teeth and claws would probably be something that he did before he cultivated his power and learned to fight in a more sophisticated way.
The worst thing is that she is aware of everything. She is so smart, intelligent and understands EVERYTHING between man and woman. She even started flirting with Xiang Liu the FIRST minute they met (being still in man's body, what a mess this girl is!).MountainPine:
I didn't see her behaviour as flirting. It was more a way to flatter and appease him. Xiao Yao knows the mechanics of sex and reproduction, but I see her as naive in matters of the heart. Her definition and understanding of love is very childish, IMO.
I was shocked how cruel and ignorant she was to him, just using him for her own benefit and throwing him away like garbage, when situation turned unexpected way. He always treated her with dignity and even asked her once again if she really sure she wants to marry him. She said yes and then left him at the altar, ruining man's reputation forever. And his feelings.MountainPine:
Feng Long's conduct in their affair was fair and straightforward. The same can't be said for Xiao Yao. No one was forcing her to marry; Cang Xuan's situation wasn't so dire that this was necessary. But she chose to go through with the marriage, only to wait 7 days for another option to present itself.
I don't think she is an intentionally cruel person; if anything, she is kind with a soft heart - something that Jing took advantage of. Rather, her lack of consistency due to her fear, emotional instability and immaturity resulted in actions that caused harm to others.
I have to edit to add that I do waver between whether Xiao Yao is genuinely kind or if she's also quite self-serving, like Jing is. Probably both. She certainly took care of her human family, but once she left QS town, she never thought to look in on them again, even though she was sending poison to Xiang Liu regularly and had the means to gather info on how they were living.
I forgot to ask, did Jing know that other feelings except for pain were transferred to Xiang Liu through Lovers Bugs?MountainPine:
I think she told him about her use of the Lover Bugs when she used them on Cang Xuan in Qing Shui. She probably mentioned their pain transferring property then. I'm not the best with details.
Going on a honeymoon to a place where she was happy with another man. Seriously?MountainPine:
Immature and thoughtless.
I suddenly came up with a short and stupid explanation 🫣. She was furious with Xiang Liu for rejecting her and thought this way: "You will feel everything I have with Jing. That's good! Know what you've lost, you idiot!". 😆MountainPine:
I apologize, that's just a joke. But seriously, she was using Xiang Liu to "stir up" Jing and fuel his jealousy. Maybe she was doing it both ways? (In the beginning of the novel it looks like that).
Immature and petty :-).
MountainPine:
Here, we call it " the artist of the burnt-out theater". 🤪
I googled, but couldn't find the meaning of this one.
So, the question is, what constitutes a demon 'eating' a god? Do they have to consume the entire physical body? Or is it just the spirit power? Or is it their blood? The fact that XL says more than once that XY wouldn't be more than a mouthful for him, and that we know he ate / absorbed the real Fang Feng Bei's power, and that he was worried about the sea demons eating half dead Jing, suggests that demons do, in fact, eat some portion of the physical body for the spirit power.Kokuto:
Jeez, do you have to put such a ghastly image into my head like that? Now my image of XL is (somewhat) tainted by the thought of him munching on someone. Although the image of Jing being eaten by sea demons is highly entertaining :-)
I'm guessing this sort of sidestepped the restriction of being a willing sacrifice, to achieve the full effect of 'eating' a god.Kokuto:
This reminded me of Journey to the West, where all the demons want to eat the Monk to increase their cultivation and life span.
Here, I'm thinking it's a transfer of power in the same way that they do in the wuxai story - the transferor willingly transferring/pushing their power into the transferee. I don't know, but it's more pleasant than thinking of Xiang Liu munching on someone. :-)
I always thought she should have asked him directly. Not through some crystal ball, poison, koi fish, and lotus... no, just directly with words. Everyone always accuses Xiang Liu of not being able to express himself with words. But Xiao Yao has the same problem (in addition to constantly lying, hehe).MountainPine:
blabla100 already gave you a reason why Xiao Yao is a passive lump. What I'll add here is, it wasn't Xiang Liu not being able to express himself with words, but rather he chose not to as a response to Xiao Yao's own passivity, fishing behaviour and evasiveness. She put up the barrier first, so she will need to show a lot more determination and certainty rather than waiting for him to reassure her. He's not Jing, and he isn't going to try to win her over that way. And he was right, since she won't even face her heart, even when under the influence of his power.
At that moment, I wanted to kill her with a flyswatter, like some fly!MountainPine:
Lol. I think you're more annoyed with Xiao Yao than I am. And I'm probably one of the most critical of Xiao Yao here.
