Kokuto:
I don't know. I just don't think the script or the performance showed Jing as smart.... maybe he was cunning, in how he manipulated XY, but did he do that with conscious intention? But yes, I think we can agree, he was definitely ineffective.

This book isn't about political strategies so this aspect was quite basic. Jing was not pulling a Mei Chang Su to help Can Xuan secure the throne, so calling him a Kingmaker is a real stretch.

And I personally think that he was intentional in his manipulations. Starting with the promise of 15 years. His behaviour of subtly reminded her of this promise by sending her 15 bottles of wine on the 15 days of the month etc. It's all very deliberate. And of course, the whole "I know I'm not good enough for you" bullshit that was aimed to play on her sympathy. He knew what he was doing. Frankly relying on Xiao Yao to help him resolve his family issue could be a deliberate manipulation tactic. Because it reminded Xiao Yao that he needed her and reinforced her role as his saviour. This creates a bond between them and places Xiao Yao in a position of responsibility towards him. This hits Xiao Yao exactly in her weak spot. Their relationship is not all that different from her relationship with her human family.

 Kokuto:
LOL! This is true. I'm surprised XL felt good about leaving her with Jing. But I guess that's why he taught her archery, so she doesn't have to rely on Jing.

Forget about relying on Jing, she'll be lucky if he doesn't drag her down with him. Particularly since by the end of the novel, he lost nearly all of his power and essentially was powerless.

@Kukuto

Yeap I dont think he ever won XL in a fight. In fact he was nearly killed at the point where the fox tail souvenir from kiddo XY popped out and WXL recognized who Xuan laoban really was. It took such great odds as you said, at the last battle to eventually kill our dear XL.. 100K Xuan Yuan soldiers against 1K Sheng Nong soldiers. I believe XL could have easily found a way to live if he was less stubborn about dying with his comrades, and maybe if XY did choose him.

In season 2, im gonna be so sad that CX is the cause of XL's death. Though I cannot say I blame him entirely, as he did give XL many chances to surrender. Our general is just so stubborn x 9heads. TJC said that XL is the kind where '十头牛都拉不回' - even 10 bulls cannot pull him back / cannot change his mind once he is set on something'

"I think Tan Jian Ci pulled it off because he believes in practice, practice, practice, and his dance background.  One thing I love about his dancing is how he acts the story of the dance.  And film fighting is basically dancing. "

Oh yes his strong dance background definitely helped I think. Plus his mentality of trying his best to portray the character to the best of his ability. Like many others, I admire TJC a lot for his work ethics and talent. This sets him apart from many other idols I used to like - they now pale in comparison to him teehee.

Edit to add the interview where TJC said XL is the type of person 十头牛都拉不回  =.=

Exactlyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I'm really curious how long they can last by themselves. Just dieeeeee and let XY be with XL in another universe. TSJ needs a powerful partner who can save him at every turn.

Lmao the roasting continues hahahahaha

Love it.

I found interesting photos in ZhiHu. Lol, I can’t with this. The Chinese text means ’being affectionate with own self.”

I've never loved and disliked 2 characters so much, much less within the same show. TH really messed with my heart.

Good lord I'm about to head to bed. Why are you doing this LMAO.

*rushes off to watch some videos to replace this image with TJC's glowy striking stunning handsome hawt-as-heck male face and body*

Oh wait, did I say body? That was a slip of my perfectly placed fingers.

Can anyone show this noob how to embed videos? I tried using the embedded function, but it's not working.

I've been seeing many videos of Love My Voice on Facebook. Looks like it's going to be so sweet that it will give us cavities :-). I would like to post a few since I figured you ladies would be interested.

His handsome face? <3

His skin is really beautiful. And he's really fair as well. I saw a BTS clip of him, and his white skin really popped.

Yes, I saw the BTS of XL's death scene and he looked really pale like somebody dumped flour on him.

Haha. I think we're referring to the same clip. He definitely fulfilled the Chinese criteria of "white, rich, beautiful". I would look like a lump of coal next to him :-)

I agree with this. I don’t think Jing is weak and ineffective. I think that is how XY liked him to be. That was their dynamic. I think Jing understood this and behaved as how XY wanted him to be. There was a strong hint in Chapter 16, when XY was listening to Jing talking to FFB and wondered why Jing sounded different when talking to others vs talking to her. XY was scared of being with a strong man. She wanted to be in control because of her psychological issues. I think one of her biggest issues with XL was that she had no control over him. XL was unattainable and out of the world. In addition to being soulmates, her love for him was a mix of intense attraction, awe and fear. I think she was both attracted to him and was scared of him (of having no control). I used to think that she did not know all the things that XL did. But after reading through the other thread and rereading the book, now I think that deep down she knew everything (except the laughing doll may be) and deluded herself both because of her fears and low self esteem that probably made her question if someone like XL could actually be in love with her.

And of wanting to be in control, I also found it interesting that XY started to play with Jing’s hair once he got poisoned and fell. I thought that was in line with compensation mechanism or replacement that once Windiaa mentioned.
