We don't use the word hapa but we have equivalent words, and they depend on the country of origin. For example, nikkei, nissei, and sansei are the names we have for people of Japanese ancestry in Brazil. Sino-brasileiro is the word for people of Chinese ancestry. Those are the most common.
Hapa are mixed raced or biracial or many other labels. I'm Hapa, half white and half Asian. Nissei, etc., usually means both parents are Japanese.

So interesting! We also have Chinese-American of course but I usually associate that with being fully ethnically Chinese.
Yes, that's the case in the US, also.
