It's true the ML died but after years together with the FL, if I don't remember wrong.
After GMP it's hard to find enjoyable another historical drama like that one, why don't you try a wuxia like Ever Night with not so much romance? Or something really fluffy like The Story of Ming Lan (slow peace drama, with small angst)?

I second The Story Of Ming Lan. I also agree that it is slow paced, but it pivots about 1/2 way thru and I really enjoyed it regardless.)

The first 20-25 episodes are slow paced, but trust @JoanneSmith and me, after them you can't stop watching it.
Some episodes are not longer than 30 minutes, so don't worry about the 73 ep. ;)
