Quantcast

Recommendations with why it's  good/ bad

Bai Mai Tee Plid Plew- tackles social issues/ lags at times

Cheese in the Trap- realistic love story/ questionable ending

Her Private Life- very cute light viewing

Hotel del Luna- beautiful visuals and great acting/ lags at times

Itazura na Kiss 1 & 2- fluffy with also great kiss scenes/ very annoying fl

Kounodori 1 & 2- amazing story, great characters, very emotional

Lawless Attorney- great ml and fl with awesome baddies/ story is predictable

Maids- AMAZING storyline with great characters (never know what will happen next)

MARS- tackles difficult issues/ older and it's age shows

Mistress- I found it very engaging, you don't know what's going to happen next/ characters making dumb decisions can be vexing

My P.S. Partner- funny while sexy

Save Me- had me anxious every episode- so good/ some dumb and annoying characters make you want to punch your screen

Secret Love- sexy and exciting with one of the best endings I've ever seen

Splash, Splash Love- short and cute, very enjoyable

The Boy Next Door- very funny!

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon & Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo- cute and fluffy, light watching

The Ghost Bride- beautiful visuals/ lackluster fl

The Handmaiden- probably unlike anything you've seen before/ very nsfw (don't watch with your parents)

Don't recommend:

Advance Bravely- bad editing made the story nonsensical

I Cannot Hug You- too ridiculous for me and I dropped it after 1 episode

Legend of Fu Yao- too inconsistent with a horrible ending, it's a shame cause the actors are great

Obsessed- boring

Queen Seon Duk- dropped after the 2 episode cause I just found the way they talked annoying and the story very boring; I may pick this up again because I've heard nothing but good things about it

The Great Seducer- complete waste of time, Woo Do Hwan is amazing though...

I also have a long PTW list but always end up using the research tool instead. So I'd say (and I should follow my own advice) just erase everything that's not "high priority". Except not yet released dramas (to keep track) and Queen Seon Duk. It's a classic. Sometimes, you'll hear references to this drama in another one. Not so often lately but still. In period dramas, the first 2 to 4 episodes are often about the lives of the parents of the main character or his/her childwood so the real story has yet to start. You'll have to watch at least 5 episodes to know if you might like it or not.

That sounds like a good advice and I'll do that for some dramas. My priority changes often with my mood so I'll keep some with low priority though. Thanks for the advice. ^^

 QianQians Fury:
My recommendation to watch would be Thirty but Seventeen.

That's a must watch for me, simply because of male lead Yang Se Jong. He's one of my favorite actors. Haven't seen the female lead actress yet. :)

 QianQians Fury:
Plus the FL was a little annoying.

Yeah that's the feeling I got from skipping through a few episodes. Would've watched it for Xiao Zhan but it's not a must.

 ShotaSidePart:

May I ask what the ending is like? I don't mind spoilers. This was the only drama I would've given a chance after being disappointed by Eternal Love and passing other dramas with the actors.

I'll bear with annoying characters as Woo Do Hwan is said to be amazing in this drama and he's my favorite actor. Also The Great Seducer. I really liked every role of him so far. ^^

Thanks for the detailed post! It helps a lot. <3

Would recommend:

Lawless Lawyer (Unexpectedly funny good romance)

Crash Landing on You (A perfect Rom-com)

Eulachacha Waikiki (Funny, romance doesn't really start until the end)(The baby is adorable)

Faith (My favorite Lee Min Ho drama)

He is Psychometric (It's cute)

Her Private Life (A perfect Rom-com)

Hotel del Luna  (there is a reason why its so popular)

Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo (if your are not used to watching Japanese dramas, its not for you)

Le Coup de Foudre (It's a fluffy drama, not much, if any angst)

MARS (its really good, but it can be sad at times)

Splash Splash LOVE ( It's short and sweet)

The Legend of the Blue Sea  (there is a reason why its so popular)

The Sound of Your Heart  (there is a reason why its so popular)

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (there is a reason why its so popular)

Would you both mind telling me why you wouldn't recommend them? A short note would be enough. :)

Dramas I would very much recommend

  • Kounodori 1 & 2 - amazing amazing inspiring and tearfully enlightening slice of life drama. One of the best medical dramas ever.
  • Code Blue 2 and 3 - fast paced and characters have their own flavor that is engaging to watch that doesnt focus on romance
  • Mr. Sunshine - heavy & melancholic but man so brilliant in narrative and awesome character development plus awesome acting from every one.
  • Weight Lifting Fairy Kim BokJoo - great coming of age drama that speaks of aspirations and puppy love
  • Splash Splash Love - fast and cute time travel drama
  • Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim - i am a fan of medical dramas, and this one was a great mentor-student narrative i loved
  • Queen seondeok - the no1 thing i loved in this drama is mishil, she is such an iconic character study to watch. Also the story maybe heavy but the journey is great
  • Reply 1997 - one of the most awesome coming of age dramas
  • Reply 1988 - great family drama
  • Empress Ki - another polictical centered drama like queen seondeok. And another great strong female lead centered drama
  • Hotel Del Luna - nice plot and background and interesting narrative, very multiplevel narrative
  • 100 Days My Prince - very linear and light heartted fluffy drama with great narrative and chemistry
  • Movies
    • Miracles of cell no7 - no need for description,  watch this one. A must must must watch.
    • My teacher - the chemistry was realky great
    • The Witch Part 1 Subversion - kim dambi was sooooo brilliant in this.
    • Sunny - fun and light movie watch
    • Il Mare - melancholic and interesting

Dramas I would not recommend:

  • Hwarang - great bromance interactions but doesnt make up for the poor narrative, jarring romance of the main leads and mediocre acting
  • Introverted Boss - poor story and irritating female lead (in characterization and actinh)
  • The Great Seducer - hot woo doohwan but so awkward female lead
  • Legend of the Blue Sea - poor chemistry betwene the leads it just coukd not keep my interest
  • You're All Surrounded - unsynced chemistry between the ensemble cast plus no chemistry between leads
  • Player - flat acting and so uninteresting chemistry
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology Doctors - forgettable narrative
  • Mistresses - stupid stupid dumb characters. I cant get over the fact that HGI's character had  allowed a questionable stranger into her house to take care and poison her kid
  • Hit The Top - plot doesnt make sense and the characters were unrelatable.
  • Different Dreams - boring and slow
  • My sassy Girl - no chemistry between the leads plus weird narrative
  • Movies
    • The Backdancers - boring

My very first dramas where from Japan. ^^ I'll skip this one for other reasons, though.

They basically kill off everyone at the end... seriously. All the characters you get to know and are the good guys that help the ml and fl, in the last battle all just fall off a bridge.  The ending is clearly rushed and because of that I was quite annoying at how things ended.

I became a fan Woo Do Hwan after watching Save Me, straight up he is AHMAZING! The Great Seducer, if you're a fan of his then I say watch it cause he doesn't disappoint. The drama as a whole though is trash and you're better off watching Cruel Intentions or Dangerous Liaisons.

Okay I would definitely hate this too. I'm considering watching the drama without the end. xD

I became a fan of Woo Do Hwan after watching Mad Dog. He's such an amazing actor. That's why every drama of him became a must watch for me. ^^

I wouldn´t recommend "Cheese in the trap".  Sometimes I wonder how I could go through 9 episodes...

I haven't watched a lot from your PTW list, but I would remove/plan not to watch:

  • Bromance - the chemistry between the leads is great, but the show is full of bad cliches and I remember cringing through a lot of it
  • Hwarang - just watch Tae's scenes on Youtube tbh. Or compilation videos of funny scenes between the Hwarang guys. The rest of the drama (plot/romance) is not worth it.
  • I Hear You - there are some cute parts but it's very forgettable and I felt the editing made the plot more confusing than it should be
  • I Cannot Hug You - did not make sense and acting was stiff, despite the leads being good in other things
  • Introverted Boss - very mediocre plot and acting. Not worth the time.

Shows I would keep on your plan to watch list:

  • Reply series - these are so great. Heartwarming, family dramas with a good amount of romance
  • It's Ok to Be Sensitive - this is a short drama on YouTube. Really easy to watch in a few hours and worth it
  • Arsenal Military Academy - wonderful ensemble cast!  Good character development for the leads, some funny moments and also some heartbreak

This thread shows very well how diverse people's tastes are. Tons of people's "do not watch" are my favorites and a lot of my "do not watch" are other people's favorites instead. It really depends on mood and your personality, etc. I like a LOT of things, so I'm more laid back in my appreciation of shows.

For Legend of Fu Yao, the show is most definitely worth watching at least one time through. I DO agree that the ending can be jarring and not exactly a HEA. I've watched it all the way through once and then watched it two more times since then, but stopping watching at about episode 58 each time. Avoid the final 8 episodes, and you'll be fine by assuming a HEA.  I will say that my problem wasn't really with the ending, but with the plot kind of going in 100 different directions by the middle of the drama. It kind of lost its amazingness because of that by episode 36 or so. But I ADORED the drama for sure up until THAT point. The action, plot, chemistry between leads is WELL worth the journey. That's my humble opinion, though. Don't hate me later. LOL

Personally LOVED Bromance. One of my favorite Taiwanese dramas (with rewatch). Just watched My Introverted Boss and it's really good!
