The FL takes power as Empress after his death, a role she was born for. So the ending is ultimately bitter sweet but very satisfying and the FL does not end up with the SML.)
Seen most of your recommendation except the first, Arsernal MA and Untamed. Thought Untamed was BL, did they changed that in the drama adaptation?>

It's BL, although mostly through subtext due to Chinese censorship. I literally cried while watching it (very rare for me), and although you have to connect a few dots due to the way the last scene is shot, the leads end up happy and together.
