I would rather that we could submit our reviews without having to give a star rating at all. 

For several dramas  and films I have a lot of thoughts I would like to express (which I think might be helpful for others too) but I couldn't give a star rating in good conscience because what I feel about these dramas and films and what I know would reflect a more objective rating don't match. 

Also, the subcategories of rewatch value and music are not very important for me. And how to rate a documentary for "cast / acting", I have no idea. But the current set-up forces me to give a rating or I can't post a review at all.

I get what you mean but as a person who reads many reviews before starting a title is essential cause the first thing I see before even reading the title is the rating. Then the reader would get to choose whether they want to read a positive or negative and how much. You might think differently but that's how I think as I read reviews and analyze them more than I write them.

As for the detailed rating, I personally like it since it helps me decide the right rating that I should give even if I'm not going to write a review.

One situation arises when I genuinely don't understand the category and, therefore, don't feel qualified to rate it. For me, this is often the case with music. If I can't grasp the language or the essence of the music, how can I provide a meaningful evaluation? In such cases, I prefer not to assign a rating at all, as it wouldn't be a fair reflection of the work.

Another situation occurs when I do understand the category but don't consider it worthy of any rating, not even the minimum score of 1. In such cases, I feel that giving a rating would inaccurately suggest that it deserves some level of recognition, even if minimal, when in reality, I believe it doesn't.

If it's a voluntary possibilitiy, then reviewers could still give ratings in their reviews if they wanted to and leave it if they didn't, mabe even just rate some categories.

This brings me to my main point: If giving a rating were optional, reviewers could choose whether to include a rating based on their comfort level with the content. They could even opt to rate specific categories rather than the whole piece. I want to emphasize that I am advocating for the removal of the condition that requires at least one rating to be submitted with  review, not the elimination of the rating system itself.

The idea is to give reviewers the freedom to either rate or not, depending on their understanding and judgment. This would lead to more thoughtful, authentic reviews and a fairer rating system overall.
