I read a novel by Ben Winters called "The Last Policeman" that has a similar concept/theme to "Goodbye Earth" -- an extinction level asteroid is going to hit the planet in six months. How long will modern civilization last? And for the protagonist, a new police detective, is there any point in investigating a suspicious death? It's the first in a trilogy. I think the books would appear to anyone who likes this series.
