What a stupid drama. The fl lead covers up for an immortal clan and a ml devoid of and any goodness. They do such disgusting acts of greed power arrogance. As a god she weak and running after him like simpleton .. people here are raving at absolute nonsense. All they see ml and fl are so good together and they so pretty and and they are so poweful hence why all chinese dramas as so bad of late. They dont value good stories and right and wrong. Manipulation greed arrogance power domination etc are defining characteristics of the leads a no defining good characteristics and they happy with these kind of heroes but actually real villiain ...absolute drivel manipulation of the spirit weapon and his life who it effects as he is happy and getting married was the icing on the cake of a character you loath and no sense of right and wrong

What I think is that you are the one who is totally out of a great and beautiful story (maybe because you are the one who has contaminated yourself with simple stories that you can no longer identify a good story and get annoyed with what all can appreciate.
1-The hero has kindness, he sacrificed himself for the clan. But because of being so badly treated, the weakness of his heart appeared. And there are two forces in conflict; the one who is capable of sacrificing herself for the other. And that selfish and remorseful force (which wants to take revenge on the whole world). He is someone who will evolve in this story. At this moment, he seems arrogant (but it is due that he can fall at any moment totally on the bad side, due to the hurt). That's why the key phrase of this drama that appears in the trailers is: "Just one thought and you become a god, one thought and you become a demon."
Ps: There's a lot of depth here: it means that the hero will have to choose. Either he follows one path, or he chooses another. Several characters in this drama are at this same dualistic crossroads. From villains to heroes. From heroes to villains.
2-The female is not simple-minded as you say. In fact, it is the foundation that fights for the integrity of the hero. She has already entered the ice heart (in the spiritual dimension), that is, she can enter Yuan Zhong's heart and knows what is there. In fact, she's a character who really brings out the nuanced multiplicity of a divine divine character in a mythological drama. Because he can see beyond and fight for the human good, with compassion, and using his magical abilities and knowledge of humans.
3-What's the problem with getting married? Marriage: the symbol of love, fidelity and the choice made by these characters. These elements exist in the real world and art borrows, and shows us in a poetic, adventurous, mythological, intimate way, (because this is a fairy tale).

I'm really enjoying the drama. And MM and LDT I'm still going to finish it to prioritize this drama (A moment but forever). (Each person has a preference.) But this drama alternates, moments with more dialogues and others with more action.
PS: I was actually expecting a drama like this, which I feel has more substance.

  more substance in term of plot? because it’s not really. currently on 15, n the “shes going to spend her life with him until he’s dead then retrieve the hand” is all we needed for the first 15eps so. there is nothing else going on! all the “supposingly” grand talk might impress younger audiences but not really to me: relationship is like a glass of water, once spilled, we can’t salvage it! or I’m like a frog in the well, blah blah blah.

  @Alila Nguyen I'm not a teenager. And I don't have gray hair yet. But... I know what I'm saying. This drama has depth. And you need to watch more episodes to realize it. Actually, I realized it from the first episode. (Maybe you'll be able to by the 19th). But... I think this drama is a wonderful mix of diving into the depths of the soul, humor, romance, fantasy with magical powers, charm, oriental philosophy, etc. (And the experience of the gods in this drama seems more tangible, real, and has a greater impact on the lives of other beings, which I find interesting). I love the slow part, just as I love the moments of action, hand-to-hand combat, magical powers, arrogant and courageous or impetuous speeches. Anyway, I see a lot of interesting things in this drama.
  Ps:
  The key phrase of the drama is in the trailer: "Just a thought becomes a demon, and a thought becomes a god." In episode 19, Tan Yin tells an enemy of Yuan Zhong that Yuan Zhong is a snake tired of life. (And why would she say that? As a goddess, she has already entered his consciousness and knows what is deep inside him. And yet, she wants to save him).

  @eliteles1 Same. And yes, this has incredible depth, is beautifully written, wonderful characters (even the supporting characters are interesting) and is easily one of the best Cdramas of the year so far.
  
  And it's the problem with a lot of young people nowadays. Incredibly short attention spans due to too much time scrolling social media, and thus with no ability to think for themselves.
  
  That's one of the reasons why any drama on MDL that requires actual thought, or a deep investment in the characters and the plot, gets low reviews. All done by people not trained to think for themselves, and expecting everything -- plot, explanation, character impetuses etc -- handed to them on a silver platter.
  
  And then whining when it isn't.
  
  It's a shame what social media has done to so many young people. It has taken away their ability to live meaningful lives, and instead has just handed them a life always lived on the surface.
  
  I feel sorry for them.

I think the main couple unexpectedly have a lot of charm and a natural understanding together, just by looking at each other and being in the room. Although, it seems that there is resistance from both of them. Little by little we see the walls being broken down and they becoming more and more involved with each other. They have opposite personalities, but this contrast has all the charm in their relationship. The second main couple, their story was a little lukewarm before, but now it has started to make perfect sense, and I feel that now is when their love has really stopped being platonic and started to develop in the practice of life. And it has started to be interesting and captivating me.
PS:
And this drama and this Ml (definitely not common), at least from my point of view and attention. He would be the supposed villain without a background, without life, without a story. But here he is the hidden hero who emerges against all odds. (And that is why Liu Xue Yi said in the last interview with Tiffany Tang that this character is as stubborn and complex as Murong Jing He from Kill me love me, that if they met, they would both fight. This movie is so boring!!! The chemistry is zero between the ML and FL. I am on epi 14 and there's nothing grabbing my attention at all. Every scene that I've watched has no meaning to the main story. WOW!!!! I've never been so bored.

It's a shame you think so. For the first time in a long time, I found something (xianxia) to capture my attention. But between the book and the anime, the drama is much better: intriguing, charming, adventurous, philosophical, and I'm following the protagonists' journey and waiting for them to overcome fate, their enemies that so closely surround them, from within and without, and save the 3 worlds (as the full synopsis promises).
PS: But, you can find another drama that captures your interest.

  @eliteles1 Oh I found it! In Blood of Youth Ep. 6, right after the battle with the old man where WuXin disintegrate his own martial arts skills at approx 32:20 in he start mumbling the "One thought, becomes a demon and one thought, becomes a buddha" line. Glad my memory did not fail me! LOL
  I like the way he delivers that line in this drama accompany by the madness though
