Mainland China Promotional Identity & Language
Approved/preferred examples include:
Official promotional posters or key visuals released for the Mainland China market
Posters using:
Simplified Chinese titles
Official Mainland China branding and credits
English-only posters only when:
They were officially used in Mainland China promotion, and
No Simplified Chinese promotional version exists
Key principle
If a Mainland China promotional visual exists, it always takes priority over overseas or foreign-market versions.
This applies regardless of:
Overseas popularity
International airing
Platform display preferences
Platform Originals — Official Promotional Use
Approved/preferred examples include:
Platform-branded posters for official Mainland China platform originals, such as:
Tencent Video
iQIYI
Youku
MangoTV
CCTV platforms
Posters that were:
Released through official announcements
Used in press materials
Posted on official Weibo or promotional channels
Platform posters that clearly function as real promotional visuals, not UI assets
Important clarification
A poster is not acceptable simply because it appears on a streaming platform
App thumbnails, recommendation cards, and search-result visuals are not approved examples
Platform branding does not override the requirement for official promotional intent
Pre-Approval & Early Promotional Posters
Approved/preferred examples include:
Official promotional posters released:
Before final broadcast approval
Before scheduling confirmation
Early promotional visuals that:
Were officially released
Were widely used during early promotion
Were never officially replaced by a later poster
China-specific context
Due to approval delays or policy changes, some titles never receive a later “final” poster. In these cases, the early official promotional visual remains the correct and preferred main cover.
Overseas Completion Without Domestic Replacement
Approved/preferred examples include:
Original Mainland China promotional posters used:
During pre-production
During early domestic promotion
Even when:
The domestic broadcast was cancelled
The title completed airing only overseas
Foreign platforms display different posters
Key principle
Overseas completion or foreign release does not replace the original Mainland China promotional identity.
If a Mainland China promotional poster exists, it remains the correct main cover.
Multi-Part / Split Drama Posters
Approved/preferred examples include:
Separate official posters or visuals for:
Split parts (上 / 下)
Named segments
Anthology-style stories
Posters that:
Clearly identify the correct part, subtitle, or segment
Were released for the specific airing period of that entry
Important
Each separately listed title, part, or segment must use its own corresponding official visual
Posters must not be reused across different database entries
If no official promotional visual exists for a specific part, a placeholder is handled by the approval staff
Legacy Mainland TV Drama Posters
Approved/preferred examples include:
Official promotional posters from older broadcast eras
Posters that may:
Be text-heavy
Use montage layouts
Feature dated typography or design
Lower-resolution or scanned materials when no better official version exists
Key principle
Historical authenticity takes priority over modern design standards.
Older Mainland China titles are not required to meet contemporary poster aesthetics.
Archival Survival via Domestic Reference Sites
Approved/preferred examples include:
Official promotional posters preserved primarily through:
Douban listings
Baidu Baike entries
Archived official Weibo posts
Posters no longer available on:
Active broadcaster websites
Platform landing pages
China-specific note
In the Mainland China ecosystem, official promotional materials are frequently removed over time. Reliable domestic reference sites often serve as the only surviving record of authentic posters and are acceptable sources when the poster itself is official.
Closing Note
Approved main cover images for China titles are selected based on:
Official origin
Intended Mainland China promotional use
Stable release identity
Correct scope and context
Visual polish, platform visibility, or international popularity do not override official Mainland China promotional intent.
