Cover Image Guidelines for Titles (Taiwan)
Contents
These rules explain Taiwan-specific requirements for selecting a main cover image for Taiwan titles.
All general cover rules (official-only, integrity, orientation, scope, rejection cases, placeholders) are defined in the Global Cover Image Guidelines and apply here by default.
Taiwan Promotional Identity Takes Priority
Taiwanese titles are frequently:
Scraped, mirrored, or reposted on Mainland China databases
Displayed with Mainland China posters that:
Look more polished or higher resolution
Are more visible on major platforms
Shown with Simplified Chinese redesigns that were not part of the Taiwan promotion
Because of this, users often assume that:
“If it appears on Douban or Baidu, it must be correct”
Mainland China posters can replace Taiwanese promotional visuals
This is not correct for Taiwan titles.
Taiwan-specific rule
Always use Taiwan-issued promotional posters or visuals
Do not replace Taiwan posters with:
Mainland China promotional posters
Simplified Chinese redesigns
Mainland distributor or platform marketing visuals
This applies even when:
Mainland posters are higher resolution
Mainland platforms display them more prominently
The title later airs, streams, or becomes popular in Mainland China
Key principle
If an official Taiwan promotional visual exists, it always takes priority for Taiwan titles. Market intent and original promotional identity matter more than visibility, platform dominance, or image quality.
Acceptable Official Sources for Taiwan Promotional Visuals
When identifying an official promotional poster or visual for a Taiwan title, acceptable sources typically include:
Official broadcaster websites or official broadcaster social media
(e.g., PTS, TTV, CTV, CTS, FTV, TVBS, SET, EBC, Videoland)
Official production company or distributor websites
Official title social media accounts (such as Facebook or Instagram)
Official press or promotional releases tied to the Taiwan release
Important clarification about reposted images
Taiwan promotional visuals may also appear on:
Regional databases
Aggregator sites
Reposted image collections
These sources are not authoritative by default.
They may be used only when:
The poster itself is clearly an official Taiwan promotional visual, and
The original broadcaster, production, or distributor source is no longer available
In these cases, the image is accepted as a preserved copy, not because the hosting site defines correctness.
