  • Itaewon Class

    1. Itaewon Class

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

This is the first K-drama I've watched, and it opened my eyes to a world of awesome I didn't know existed. I loved the cast, especially Park Seo Joon, Yoo Jae Myung, Kim Hye Eun, and An Bo Hyun.  The story was amazing. Seeing Sae Ro Yi achieve his goals through all the adversity and obstacles the Jang family, especially Dae Hee put him through was inspiring. Definitely recommend.

  • The Loyal Pin

    3. The Loyal Pin

    Thai Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    10

Everyone involved with this series brought their S-ranked game to bear. Everything was top-notch about this series. There is nothing bad I can say about this one. Freen and Becky have yet again set a standard that other Thai GLs have to work to attain. Their chemistry is ridiculous. They had me hooked on the story so hardcore that I immediately had to read the books to see what happened next. I just couldn't wait, and the cast and crew did an amazing job taking care with the source material. Especially if you love period pieces, this is a must-watch.

If I could give this series a 15/10, I would. I can't say anything bad about this series. Everything from the casting to the acting to the sets, soundscapes, and music were all top-notch. The soundtrack for this show speaks to my soul just like when I first heard the soundtrack for the 1995 remake of the movie Sabrina. This series is the current peak (may stand for all time) of what a GL series can bring. I also feel like Freen and Becky (Pin and Anin) have set yet another standard for GL series, elevating what they did in Gap the series.  They are definitely the GOATS of GL. This series has been added to my list of all-time favorite TV series, including shows like Game of Thrones, Rome,  Stargate SG-1, MASH, The Golden Girls, Itaewon Class, etc. I couldn't recommend this series highly enough and it is most definitely rewatchable. Why can't I buy this series on Blu-ray? Why can't I buy this soundtrack on CD or digital media?

  • Mine

    4. Mine

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    10

I loved that this mystery is interspersed with family intrigue and drama. There was so much to digest and ponder while watching this series, and they got me in the end. I couldn't figure out who did the crime because honestly, anyone in this family could have done it. Also, I will give a chance to anything that Kim Seo Hyung is acting in.

I would watch or give a chance to anything that Park Shin Hye is in, and she kills it in the role of Kang Bit Na/Justitia. I also like Kim Jae Young as Kang's love interest, Han Da On, and Lee Joong Ok seems to be booked and busy, cause I've seen him in at least four or five series so far. The story was very well done and thought-provoking throughout, and I wish they'd make a season 2, though if they don't, the series had a well-rounded ending.

  • Petrichor

    9. Petrichor

    Thai Drama - 2024, 10 episodes

    9.5

Top-notch crime procedural/serial killer drama that has a bit of GL thrown in for spice.  Everyone in the cast did amazing jobs in their roles, especially Englot (Engfah Waraha and Charlotte Austin), who play Lt. Tul and Dr. Ran,  and Joke Akarin Akaranithimetrad who plays Wisut.

I almost feel like this series doesn't belong on a GL list. I say that because this show feels more like a Crime Procedural drama with the leads in a GL relationship. As a lover of mysteries and crime/cop shows like Law & Order, I really love that this series is unique in that the relationship seems to take a backseat to the "murder of the week" premise of the show without diminishing the importance of the relationship. I also love the subplot of "Who's the Raindrop Killer". I love that the producers, writers, and actors did their homework in learning about their character's jobs in this show, and worked very hard to make this show feel real, gritty, and visceral.  Kudos to especially Engfa and Charlotte who are just elevating their game yet again. The make-up department deserves a raise and a bonus on this show. This show is only half over, but I feel like it will end up in one of my all-time favorites if this series can stick the landing, and it seems like they are well on the way to doing that. I recommend this show, especially if you like mysteries, but I would caution those squeamish about injuries to be prepared to see some gruesome stuff.

  • GAP

    10. GAP

    Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    9.5

Gap is the second GL I ever watched and the series that started the GL boom in Thailand. For me (and many other fans of the genre), this was the standard that all other Thai GLs had to measure against--that was until the recent release of The Loyal Pin. Freen and Becky are the GOATS/Goddesses of GL and this was the proper start to their reign. This series is great and runs the gamut of emotions, which I love and will always have a special place in my heart. It also starts the time-honored tradition of Heng NOT getting the girl and continues Looknam as the sassy sidekick. I do wish that Looknam could lead a series if she wants. I love her. I love Heng, and hope that he can finally finish the task in a series in the future. HAHA!  I recommend this to anyone wanting to get their foot into the world of  Thai GLs. Also, it is a definite rewatch.

  • Marry My Husband

    11. Marry My Husband

    Korean Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    9.5

I will watch or give a chance to anything that Park Min Young is in, and this series didn't disappoint. Top-notch storytelling from start to finish. I would recommend this one.

  • Twenty-Five Twenty-One

    12. Twenty-Five Twenty-One

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    8.5

All I can say is Kim Tae Ri and Bona (Kim Ji Yun). I will try to watch anything that they are in, and they killed it in their roles of Na Hee Do and Go Yu Rim. I will also say that through this series, these two actresses got me interested in Fencing as a sport. The story was bittersweet, poignant and a bit of a history lesson as well. I love this series.

  • The Secret of Us

    15. The Secret of Us

    Thai Drama - 2024, 8 episodes

    9.5

I love the story, the acting, and the music. I liked that this series has a quirkiness to it.  The chemistry between Ling Ling and Orm literally jumps off the screen (much like Freen and Becky), and though I don't cry a lot at movies, their acting often had me in tatters. I still can't completely rewatch episode 1 because of a certain scene that tore me up inside in a way that I still haven't quite recovered. My only issue with this series is some redemptions didn't feel earned, but it wasn't enough to take me out of the story. I would recommend this series.

  • My Name

    16. My Name

    Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes

    8.5

I will watch or give a chance to anything that Han So Hee is in, and Ahn Bo Hyun being in it is a bonus. This series and story are brutal, gritty, and heartbreaking.

  • Blank

    17. Blank

    Thai Drama - 2024, 6 episodes

    9.0

I love this series. Like many who read the synopsis of this story, I was a tad apprehensive to watch it, because of the gap in ages between the two main characters, but I am so glad that I am open-minded enough to give the series at least three episodes. Once, I did, I was hooked. Faye and Yoko's acting was some of the best I've seen in media period. The way they played the nuanced relationship of Nueng and Anueng is a sight to behold. I love how the average viewer's perspective of relationship archetypes was turned on its head in this story. I also loved that this story showed that the way a person is raised can either be a gift or a curse, depending on how it affects their emotional growth for future situations. This series was really thought-provoking too and made me re-evaluate my hang-ups about age gaps, and that is a testament to how good it was. The only thing I didn't like about this series was the soundtrack. Season 1, the soundtrack (as a music addict) actually took me out of some scenes, and though Season 2 was definitely an improvement from Season 1, there were still moments when the music took me out of the immersion of the story.

So far, I like the story. I love Gen's character and the way she's acted by Grace Budsarin Wonglelanont.  Gen is very much a tsundere and primadonna before she meets Aoey again. I love seeing her journey of going from someone who is very self-absorbed and someone who hates being defied to a person who is seemingly willing to give all just to make her special someone feel safe and happy. I also loved Gen's journey of self-acceptance. Aoey's character is acted well also. As someone who has gone through and had to deal with the repercussions of a situation like Aoey's, I can say that Oeay Ponchanok Theerawan's portrayal is spot-on in many respects. The sets and production are done quite well and the soundtrack (what there is of it) is also well done. I'd recommend it, but I'll warn people to be ready for some tough subject matter in this one.

-- The show on the whole was very good. The two leads had really good chemistry. Namtam (the actress who played Oom and Ai) should win many awards for her portrayal of twins.  Film did a good job as May, and Khapook (the actress who played Pim) should get a lead in her own GL series.

The entire cast played their roles well, and the music, on the whole, was good, but my only issue with the series is their portrayal of Oom. They tried to rewrite Oom as an ultimately redeemable, sympathetic character, and I guess for the TV series it was ok. Yet as a book reader, I felt that Oom should have no redemption. Even in the TV series, Oom mentioned that she broke up Ai and May to make herself feel better, so why would you try to redeem a character like this? In the novel, she was ultimately the reason why Paul died (with a bit of an assist from May), she tried to kill May, and she only broke up Ai and May so that May would suffer. Oom didn't care about her twin sister's feelings at all. Also, Oom knew about all the sacrifices that Ai made to make Oom's life better, and she still treated her sister like garbage. That type of character shouldn't be redeemed. That type of character should be made to sit in their crapulence to accept the consequences of their actions.

For me, this story was all about SolJiwan. I love Han Sohee. She is one of my favorite actors, but her relationship chemistry with Song Kang didn't work for me. SolJiwan's burgeoning romantic relationship is what made this show worth watching, and I am still waiting on a spin-off series featuring these characters...though I'll probably never get it.
