Films bl clubbers recommended that I haven't seen yet
Feel free to recommend more bl themed movies in the comments if you want :)
-
1. Vive L'Amour
Taiwanese Movie - 1994
iota = "out of everything on my list, this is probably the most... niche. it's a slower paced movie with sparse dialogue. which normally wouldn't really be my thing, but i really connected with lee kang sheng's character in this. this is also probably the furthest from the "bl" category as there's no gay relationship, just very well crafted yearning. not for everyone but i personally love it very very much"
-
2. The Blue Hour
Thai Movie - 2015
iota = "i'm very very biased towards gun, who has a main role in this so that definitely influenced my love of this movie. but again, this one is not for everyone. it deals with some dark themes and incorporates some horror elements (although pretty light imo). like vive l'amour, this movie deals with loneliness and specially queer isolation. this is one of those movies that i watched at exactly the right time in my life and emotionally it really home for me"
Gun as main lead
-
3. The Paradise of Thorns
Thai Movie - 2024
iota = "this one is a thriller, again dealing with some darker themes. everything about this movie, imo, is fantastic. the acting, the cinematography, the pacing and the story, the music, the costuming, etc etc it's a very well made movie. both jeff and keng give great performances and their chemistry is amazing (they're my current pfp :3). even on a second watch this movie still blew me away. not a happy watch though, fair warning"
Jeff as main lead and Keng as supporting lead
-
4. Farewell My Concubine
Chinese Movie - 1993
iota = "a classic for a reason. i'm not usually big into historical dramas but this was so so good. gorgeous cinematography, fascinating characters, and overall a great story. there's not much to say that others haven't said a million times already but i loved this movie"
-
5. The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese
Japanese Movie - 2020
iota = "messy! sexy! toxic! a little freaky! (in a good way)! all things i love so naturally, i thought this was a great watch. actually would really like to rewatch this soon"
Mr. P ="which was alright but I didn't like it as much as most others"
-
6. Bangkok Love Story
Thai Movie - 2007
iota = "oh boy. i personally was unable to take this movie like at all seriously. it's very melodramatic but in a way that placed it firmly in "so-bad-it's-good" territory for me. like everything else on this list, this movie deals with heavy themes and was it definitely written to be an emotional heavy hitter. i don't think i had the intended watch experience but i did have a great watch experience. very entertaining movie, to me at least :)"
-
8. Double Exposure
Korean Movie - 2024
dora = "is basically porn"
It's probably gonna be bad but oh well everything needs to be watched
-
9. Dangerous Drugs of Sex
Japanese Movie - 2020
dora = her friend described it as “the most f$cked up movie she had ever seen“ but hard to look away from
Mr. P = "I liked these in their own way, but for goodness sake, don't watch these unless you specifically know what you're in for"
I have been warned, but I'm curious
-
10. Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru

-
16. Playboy (and the Gang of Cherry)
Thai Movie - 2017
Mr. P = "I liked these in their own way, but for goodness sake, don't watch these unless you specifically know what you're in for"

Why is Gun in this low rated film???
-
17. Grand Guignol
Japanese Movie - 2022
Mr. P = "I liked these in their own way, but for goodness sake, don't watch these unless you specifically know what you're in for"

-
20. The Red Envelope
Thai Movie - 2025

BillkinPP as main leads <3
-
21. A Balloon's Landing
Taiwanese Movie - 2024
Mr. P = "I wasn't really expecting much, but gosh, it was really good: beautiful cinematography, beautiful music, good acting, engaging (albeit very confusing) story about the complex relationship (love story) between the protagonists. There seems to be some debate about whether it's bromance or BL, particularly as there are no NC scenes (other than shirtless) and not even a consummated kiss - but to me, it's definitely BL with powerful feelings. As I said, it's confusing, especially as things are revealed and unfolded in the second half, so I had to watch a second time in order to fit all the pieces together"
-
22. Does the Flower Bloom?
Japanese Movie - 2018
Mr. P = "Serious, engaging and generally good. More like a stage play (with dialogue, psychology) than the usual BL. Nice cinematography, especially the beautiful house. Not for everyone (age difference 19 vs. 37, not much BL-type chemistry, ambiguous/unsatisfying ending which isn't the usual HEA), but I really liked it"
-
23. My Bromance
Thai Movie - 2014
Mr. P = "Of special interest because it stars a very young Fluke Natouch (in 2014). I thought it was quite good, but be warned: While the first half is super sweet, the second half is sad and very heavy"
-
24. Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!: The Movie
Japanese Movie - 2022
Mr. P = "If you liked the series, this is the sequel"
Why didn't I know about this film sequel???

31. Where Your Eyes Linger (Movie)
Korean Movie - 2020

-
32. Sono Koi, Jihanki de Kaemasu ka?
Japanese Movie - 2023
ZhouYanRan recommended, best fluffy bl film of her 2025 watches
-
33. Love in the Big City
Korean Movie - 2024
ZhouYanRan = "how is the film related to the drama? I mean, they're both adaptations of the same novel, but the characters are named differently ? Anyways, I prefer film to drama. Mostly because the main character in the film is more likeable than the one from the drama. Also the film seems to focus more on the friendship between the main character and his girl-friend and less on their respective love lives"
Kim Go Eun as main leads
-
34. Share
Filipino Movie - 2012
ZhouYanRan = "I liked it, but not everyone will, since there's a love triangle and infidelity. The ending though? I did not expect them to become a throuple, but it wasn't an unwelcome outcome ?"
-
35. Unspoken Passion
Filipino Movie - 2008
ZhouYanRan = "This film was hard to watch. The scenes jumped from one time period to the other, which made it really confusing and I don't think that was necessary. I'd like this film better if it was made in a more chronological order. It's another story with a love triangle, but it also touches on the sex industry. The ending was bittersweet"
oh gosh jumping scenes are never good!!
-
36. One Summer Night
Korean Movie - 2016
ZhouYanRan = "I do wonder why one actor was blurred and the other was shown 'in all his glory'. Was that the actor's decision? ? Anyways, the film is quite sad. Yet another love triangle. I'm not sure how to interpret Yong Joon's behaviour. Was he angry at Jae Sung, because he came to him when he's already moved on or because he came and reignited the long-forgotten feelings? I was confused, but I guess Yong Joon was too"
