My favourite BL series & movies

This is my favourite romance series. Simple and common story but so well-made and making every scene count. It feels very real and raw, beautiful and heart fluttering. Great acting. This is a must watch.

A largly unknown series and therefore very underrated. Great love story, beautiful and romantic. Different story for a BL, time-travel and historical. A must watch.

No kisses because of censorship and this is still one of the most romantic series, if not the most romantic series. I root for this couple the most. They really showed the couples love and need of each other, in all the ways they could think of and they could get away with. It’s shown through the characters actions, big and smal, looks and smiles, their words, sacrifices, support, different treatment and behavior around each other, symbolism, the music, the way of filming… This is a must watch.

This is my feel-good show and the one I have watched the most. I just love how we get to see them just having a nice time together and how they truly care about each other. One of them knows what he feels but is happy with just being in the life of the man he loves in any way he can. The other man is feeling down so he does what he can to make him happy. Very sweet. It is an office romance but even more so a food romance.

Two great couples. They are very mature despite their age and super supportive. Life is not simple but they are there for each other. Loved their storylines.

Peaceful, made me smile. Historical, time-travel. Sweet and romantic. I didn't like that it had a time-jump at the end.

Entertaining and cute office romance with boss-employee dynamic and the grumpy/sunshine trope. A little warning, you can see the power imbalance and abuse of power in this, but give it a try if you like these tropes and you are looking for something light and positive. I really enjoy it.

Deep and dark but positive and hopeful. A series that shows how a person can change how you feel about life, but therapy can still be needed and with it you can learn to live again. This is a must watch.

A slice of life series that is light, really heartwarming and sweet. It has the found family trope. :)

This movie is filled with desperation, regret, longing and deep love. I love this movie. Sometimes people take a long time to accept themselves, if they ever do. When they do come to accept themselves, you would hope that they could find the love that they previously denied themselves of. A man is trying to do just that in this movie, he wants his old love back. Sadly a long time has passed and he himself now has a child and is in a custody battle with his ex-wife. Can he have it all? He is willing to try. This is a must watch.

A feel-good countryside, farmlife romance movie. This movie has many of the themes I love, the found family trope, the grumpy x sunshine trope, the sunshine x sunshine protector trope and it is about finding your place and people that you can be yourself with, that value you. It also has the fish out of water trope, for anyone who loves that trope.

If you love The untamed then you need to watch this series, it is very similar.

Strong, likable characters and two nice couples, with interesting dynamics and chemistry. Pushing and supporting each other. Interesting plot. Their way of showing the struggle of coming out was great. Good emotional scenes and great acting. However, I hated how the show handled the subject of being outed.

The best tension and sensual moments. Interesting couple and characters. Warning: the couple is toxic, both of them have things they need to work on, but they do grow and you do root for them as a couple.

It has the rich/poor trope.

mafia member x civilian. Hurt/comfort. 

A feel-good food romance with the close proximity trope. Couple: an office worker (advertising designer) and his new neighbour who owns a new restaurant. The restaurant owner likes the neighbour and tries to win him over by having him over for dinner. Very sweet.

Very sweet. Loved it. Celebrity romance. A writer and an actor.

The first movie/seasons plot sounds like wattpad come to life but it is well made and leaves you with a good feeling. The second movie/season has a different feel... It feels more real and impactful, the first movie/season doesn't make my favourite BL-series list but the second movie/season does.

Great series. Two people who are quietly there for each other when they are having a hard time because of their family members.

Entertaining show (although it did drag out in the last episodes). I love the complex characters and emotions and that I could understand every characters reasonings and actions, that it made sense. The main couple have many cute moments, chemistry and good kisses/sex scenes. However Ming does not treat Joe right, but I could see why he was acting the way he was and I did root for them as a couple.

Great. Really feel-good. They really pact this series with important and cute scenes. The concept is stupid but they really pulled it of, it was funny and cute. Good chemistry. Likable characters. Similar vibes from when I watched "our dating sim", both also have many cute kisses.

It's lacking a bit in depth. I only felt good while watching it, the story only had minor conflicts and I would have liked to feel more emotional, invested. More backstory and family involvement would have helped.

The smal clips is a very convinient way to not have to make the story flow.

Feel-good and sweet. Longing looks. Characters caring about each other and taking care of each other, making each other stronger. Some super-sweet scenes.

 It is a bit corny, sometimes it gets a bit much.

It has some really over the top drama, that felt unrealistic and cliche, to the point where it made me smile smh, for example the typical ”chose who you want to live”. It would have been better without those extreme scenes.

Also, I did not enjoy the second couple and that couple was not good with consent, having sex with someone who is not sober enough.

Entertaining plot,  but you have to suspend your disbelief. I love that we have two strong and confident main characters that are comfortable in their interest in each other and know that they both share that interest. You also get to see them being a healthy domestic couple and it isn't boring or lacking spark. Among the best kissing scenes I have seen and they have great chemistry.

Sensual and sweet. I enjoy the coloring and the old school vibe through the locations (bowling hall, Burger diner) and the music. The characters, their dynamics and the story are interesting. The series has a light feel but still has dark themes. Some funny jokes and great flirting. Unrealistic but intentional and entertaining. Some things you have to look over, one spoilerfree example: a person being great at tattooing despite it being his first time, putting weight on a first tattoo and the tattoos looking very fake. I am fine with doing that for this type of show.

This sounded like it would not be my thing, with it having a couple consisting of a college student/babysitter and his teacher who is the father of the child that the student is babysitting. They also have a big age-gap. I actually found them very wholesome and sweet together, so give it a try if you can.

Sweet teenage love story.

One of them is really dedicated to his love and truly spellbound by him and the other man clearly feels something but he tries to ignore his feelings. This is a relationship with a big age-gap.

A funny, innocent and sweet feel-good series. Loved it for the likable characters, nice and relatable friendship dynamics and the super cute story of first love. Few and very innocent kissing scenes but it suited the characters and it felt realistic. There was some toxicity, with denial and jealousy from one character but… that can be true to life and the way they did it made it funny to me… sorry :S Great acting and chemistry.

Season 1 of Love class is good but only season 2 makes it onto my list of favourites. The couples in season 2 are really sweet and they have really good chemistry. They really make or break this kind of show, a show with a simple story. The second season is not really connected to season 1 so you can start with season 2.

Light, sweet and feel-good office romance. It has the grumpy x sunshine trope and the boss x employee dynamic.

A sweet office romance. Couple: they are designers at the same company, one of them is the top-designer at the company and the other is new there. They once were close friends but one of them left.

A sweet office romance with a fantasy element (reading minds). There are two couples in it but I only enjoy one of them, however I enjoy that couple very much. The couple in question: they are coworkers at an office, the popular guy at work has a crush on the shy one. Note/spoiler: They didn't show any physical contact worth mentioning in season 1 or in the movie and they built it up like they would and then told us they did... I felt frustrated. However I really loved everything else about it.

A series that handles an important subject matter and has very real conflicts, it made me cry and that usually only happens for me when someone dies. Everything the series included felt like it served a purpose. I have seen many people say that this show feels like it´s a show by gay people for gay people. This show is a must-watch, ignore the shaky acting in a few scenes and the inevitable impact that the lower budget has on the series, the script is so good. (It has the forced close proximity (roommates) trope.)

If you watch the movie "His" on this list and you like that then you should try "Life: Love on the line". There are many similarites and both are really good, I prefer His. 

Great series, story and characters. Very dark, many trigger warnings! Two very fucked up, hurt, main characters. One of them does really awful things to the other, who in turn just takes it. The series does not paint what he does as hot or cool. The series shows us his backstory and from that you can understand that he is damaged and wants to have the control that was taken from him, hurt people hurt people. The other man is also damaged and he sees something in the other man, who shows him glimpses of pure feelings. The main characters go through healing journeys, as they get closer and care for each other when no one else does.

-shows a lot of different sex but not that much nudity and it did not feel "cheap" or cringe. Good kisses and sex-scenes.
-the gay couple (Yu Sen x Lee Yueh)
 reminds me of mickey and Ian from Shameless. Except Ian is more outgoing/friendly then Yu Sen.
-good quality and production.
-not boring. I binged it. Interesting storylines and characters.
-interesting couples and I bet many can relate to them.
-good chemistry, believable couples and acting.
-I was just a bit dissapointed with the storyline between the sister who is a writer and her partner who is a professor, I wanted to see them communicate more about their needs and go to couples therapy.
-I did not cry and I feel like this series would have been even better if it gave me that emotional reaction.

Reminds me of The Warp Effect (2022)

Similar to The untamed or Word of honor, but this one is not censored, however I don't find the story as good and I don’t like the non-consent.

This is the type of series that you can only enjoy if you turn of your brain and just fantasise, if you do then it's a deep and romantic series. One of the couples in it are pseudo-brothers and they have an age-gap, one of them basically acting as a parent. As it was depicted in the story it did not feel problematic (in real life that would not be the case). I did enjoy the series and their relationship, their love and longing for each other. I could not get into the other couple since she was so mutch younger then him when they first met and still felt very young from how she acted. The story had good pacing, I did not have to fast forward.

This series sounded cringy to me but it was actually really well made, sweet and funny. It has the forced close proximity (roommates) trope, the hurt/comfort trope and a fantasy element (animal to human transformation). Two great couples.

So very cute. I had a constant smile. Love the chemistry and the actors really suite their roles and make it believable in a romcom sort of way. It was not cringe despite for example a naive and immature main character.
-Good kisses and intimate scenes. However due to how young Teerak acted I felt a bit weird about us as an audience watching them be that intimate...
-the story is done to death but it is very well done and I was entertained. This is an example of tropes done right. It's fine to be predictable and tropy.
-i was not bored, although it got less interesting in the second half especially around episode 10 for me.
-i don't care about the second or third couple, I felt like both couples needed more time focused on them to develop.
-they should not have spent so much time on the stalker/harassers side who (SPOILER) drugged and forced himself on another guy, it was not realistic or healthy to have a ”redemtion arc” for that character, in the way they did. How he had it "hard" did not explain his extreme behaviour or excuse it. Showing the possible start of a romance between him and another character felt like the wrong focus. Terak should not have been the one apologizing to him.

Good chemistry, tension building and cute scenes. Cute series. Could have left out some scenes that felt random or unnecessary (fewer flash-backs). It was quite fast paced in the beginning but it got slower as the story progressed, eventually it got to slow, the last episode had me skipping big portions. I also would have liked some other obsticles in the series. The crying was not belivable in some parts but otherwise good acting. A few scenes had me thinking that a different, more impactful soundtrack would have made the scenes better.

Very bittersweet. I could feel the characters pain. Felt real. Main characters that did bad things but the movie did not try to paint it as good. Complex.
Lesson: You do not choose who you love. You can run from it but it will haunt you and you will regret it. The people around you will be affected and suffer.
The ending... I did not like the last frame, it felt unsatisfying. SPOILER. I think something like him seeing the new white curtains in the windows or him buying a new lighter (depending on if you want to leave a hint of them maybe getting back together or maybe moving on) would have felt satisfying.

Anyway I don't understand how the score is so low, I guess because some do not see the depth and do not like the characters actions and the characters together.

Adorable first meeting ☺️ some really cute scenes. Really good kisses. Rare showing a sex scene in a K-bl and it was a romantic long one.
-I really like the relationship. Healthy. Calmly talking and handling conflict.
-Classic shy quiet awkward main character who is totally unaware of the fact that the hot, cool, popular guy is interested in him.
-shows coming to terms with your sexuality and coming out.
-a special episode would be nice, mainly for the potential second couple to make a move.

Not boring! Amazing chemistry and good acting. Cute/sensual scenes. Really like their dynamic.
8? But I want to compensate for the low rating.

Great tension between the couple and chemistry. Plenty of cute and sexy scenes. Entertaining, I did not have to fast-forward and I like the story.

Biggest dislikes:
-SPOILER that the first kiss was while one of them was sleeping
-just how creepy/stalkerish Jins behaviour was in the first few episodes. Still enjoy it though.
-SPOILER Has the classic man who has secretly been in love with one of the mains, who takes advantage of the main when he is inubriated and I did not like how it was handled for the most part.
-the implications of what Jin was saying in ep 7 when he was comforting Akin... So if Akin had sex with the other guy (was raped) Akin would have made a mistake? No, having sex with someone who is that drunk is rape and not his mistake!
-how Johnny was painted as a bad person parly because he slept with people to get acting jobs.... I mean those people used their position by giving the jobs to him when he slept with them! Blame them! I also hated that they basically threatened to expose this info. We do not know how it all started, if they said "if you do this for me then you will get the job" and how desperate he was, needing money for example.

Cute! Lots of good kisses with cute moments! Longing looks. Feel-good. Good portrayal of coming to terms with sexuality. Good dialoge and simple but well-executed story.

-Abrupt ending. Needs a second season to finish telling the story it wants to tell and conclude things they brought up.  I should give this a 7,5 or something until then... But I enjoyed it a lot... So I give it an 8 and I might lower the score depending on the second season.

-Would love atleast one really emotional scene, to make me feel the hurt and give good contrast.

Couple: A wedding planner and his customer, a groom-to-be

I almost did not add it to my favourites list, I loved what I saw, it was just to short! I feel like I did not have enough time with it to become fully invested… but I have rewatched it more than once so obviously I did enjoy it a lot. They did a lot with the 30 minutes.
The only other things that could improve was that the wimpy corporate slave's exagerated facial expressions was a bit to much at times and that the kiss was far to tame/dead, it did not fit the couple.

Office romance with longing looks and great kisses. Has the long time crush trope. I did not like a scene where one of the men tried to make the other man jealous (I guess?) at a restaurant by involving another man, I guess it was some sort of test maybe. They tried to make the scene funny and I think the scene would have worked better if the show did not make it into a joke but instead explored his insecurities more clearly.
