Cosy Dramas

These are dramas that have a specific vibe I am fond of. They are often slow burners, meaning the relationship is slower in development. They can have dark undertones, not necessarily crime but there are darker themes weaved into the plot and characters, allowing for more emotional storylines. They are dramas you relax with, feel cosy with, really get into, they are not quick paced or maybe even that exciting, but they are worth it in their own way.

    1. Hospital Playlist

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    10

In all honesty this drama is probably one of my all time favourites. Many would probably scrollpast it due to it being a medical drama but believe me it’s so much more than that. This is pure wholesomeness, the friendship chemistry of the cast is insane, the storylines are incredibly touching. This is overall such a fantastic drama, I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It’s more focused on the friendship aspect but has various storylines and developments of each character.

Cast: Jo Jung Seok (Oh My Ghostess), Yoo Yeon Seok (Dr. Romantic), Jung Kyung Ho (When The Devil Calls Your Name), Kim Dae Myung (The Sound of Your Heart) & Jeon Mi Do (Musical Actress, this is her first main drama role).

  • One Spring Night

    2. One Spring Night

    Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes

I loved this drama, I thought it was beautiful. There is a development of a strong bond between the leads, the pharmacist who has a son and a librarian in a relationship that she doesn’t want to advance Into marriage. Acting is stunning and realistic, personally I prefer this on over Something In The Rain but both have different qualities to explore.

This drama is probably the best to describe this list.

Cast: Jung Hae In (Something In The Rain, While You Were Sleeping) & Han Ji Min (Familiar Wife, The Light In Your Eyes)

  • Rain or Shine

    3. Rain or Shine

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

One of the sadder dramas of this list. Based around an accident that cause 48 people to lose their lives. The leads were in the accident and go through emotional trauma, they deal with the fear and nightmares brought on by the accident. They cross paths and learn to embrace the past and future for what it is.

I thoroughly enjoyed this drama, it was beautifully made. The development is slow but that is where the impact lies, the build up of emotions is a strong point in this drama.

Cast: Junho (2PM, Wok of Love, Chief Kim) & Won Jin Ah (Melting Me Softly, Life)

  • A Piece of Your Mind

    4. A Piece of Your Mind

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

I am so disappointed that this was cut short. At only 12 episodes you experience the elements of love and loss mixed with music and technology. It has a warm vibe, two people who end up consoling each other over what could have been. I personally love elements of music in my dramas, so this was a bonus for me. It feels like you‘re filtering through memories which gives it a nostalgic and soft feeling. The ending is rushed I must admit but I wouldn’t let that stop you from  enjoying the drama for the endearing love story it is.

Cast: Jung Hae In (One Spring Night, Something In The Rain) & Chae Soo Bin (Where Stars Land, I Am Not A Robot)

  • Tomorrow with You

    5. Tomorrow with You

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

This is a lovely fantasy drama about a time traveller. The tone of this drama is just so nice. Every episode has an element of sweetness and bitterness, it mostly plays on the relationship between the main leads. It could be complicated as a time travel drama, I found it to be logical and connecting, but I could understand any confusions with the time travel elements. The supporting cast is also incredible and really adds to the drama. It‘s a slow uncovering of fate and what challenges to the time traveller faces to change it.

Cast: Lee Je Hoon (Where Stars Land, Signal) & Shin Min Ah (Oh My Venus, My Girl Friend Is AGumiho)

Still airing at the moment but it is worth the watch. This is possibly the darkest drama on the list. A children's book author with an anti social personality disorder meets a mental health nurse and his autistic brother, together they rediscover the meaning of family and love, although they do have a past connection. Honestly this is just such a good drama, the acting, the styling, the filming, it checks all the boxes for me.

Cast: Kim Soo Hyun (My Love From Another Star, Moon Embracing the Sun), Seo Ye Ji (Save Me, Moorim School) & Oh Jung Se (Touch Your Heart, Hot Stove League).

  • Where Stars Land

    7. Where Stars Land

    Korean Drama - 2018, 32 episodes

    8.5

Along with Jung Hae In, Lee Je Hoon is another master of this genre. Based in an airport, enemies to lovers pretty much. I personally loved this drama, it was sweet and endearing but also tackled some issues within society towards groups of people such as women in the workplace and the disabled. This is a fantasy drama but it’s not too wild, nothing massively out of the ordinary I would say.

Cast: Lee Je Hoon (Tomorrow With You, Signal) & Chae Soo Bin (I Am Not A Robot, Strongest Deliveryman)

  • Encounter

Another Noona romance. I adore the crossing of cultures and loctations in this drama, the Cuban aspects were really beautiful. It’s not a dark drama, it’s a beautiful slow burner, warm and soft. Of course Park Bo Gum is adorable in it, I really enjoyed the differences in character and how they develop similarities, embrace each others differences and thoughts. It is a maturer romance but to me it’s quite pure at heart.

Cast: Park Bo Gum (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, Reply 1988) & Song Hye Kyo (Descendants of the Sun, That Winter The Wind Blows)

  • A Poem a Day

    9. A Poem a Day

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    8.0

This is another wholesome drama. As a lover of Lee Yoo Bi and Jang Dong Yoon, and also of medical dramas, this was perfection. Intertwined with poetry and a focus on a different aspect of medical profession it is a nice and relaxed drama, there’s not much dark tones other than the medical aspects of physical therapy so it is one of the lighter dramas on this list.

Cast: Lee Yoo Bi (Somehow 18, Pinocchio), Lee Joon Hyuk (365: Repeat the Year, Stranger) & Jang Dong Yoon (Tale of Nokdu, School 2017)

  • 20th Century Boy and Girl

    10. 20th Century Boy and Girl

    Korean Drama - 2017, 32 episodes

    7.5

Honestly this drama is underrated. It was one of my favourites when it was airing, I couldn’t wait for the next episode. It was beautifully simple. It revolves around a group of friends who despite busy lives still keep in contact. We see aspects of their lives, their loves, their struggles and how they tackle them. The most central character would be the popular actress and her male friend who turns up after disappearing.

Cast:  Han Ye Seul (Birth of a Beauty) & Kim Ji Suk (When The Camellia Blooms)

  • Something in the Rain

    11. Something in the Rain

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    7.5

On the mature side, beautiful filming style, focuses on the development and relationship of an older woman and younger man. Uneventful for the most part therefore a lot of reviews claim it be boring and typical. It’s a classic Jung Hae In style drama.

Cast: Jung Hae In (One Spring Night, While You Were Sleeping) & Song Ye Jin (Crash Landing on You, Personal Taste)
