Time travel/Transmigration dramas

A list of dramas including time travel or transmigration (main lead ends up in an alternative world) in their main plotline, ranked from my most favorite to my least favorite based on my overall enjoyment of the drama itself, not on the use of the timetravel/transmigration plot-line.

    1. W

    Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes

    10

This is an all time favorite of mine. Transmigration done at its best, with the best lead actors possible, there isn't one single episode that doesn't leave you in absolute HYPE. The female lead ends up saving the life of her favorite cartoon character by ending up in his webtoon and things simply escalate from there. The love story is so cute. I have rewatched this drama a million times and I never get tired of it.

  • Reset

    2. Reset

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 15 episodes

    10

This story has our two main leads trapped in a time loop that forces them to relieve their death over and over as they try to figure out how to save everyone involved and escape from it. The romance is lowkey but perfectly balanced with the plot, extremely engaging. Contrary to most chinese dramas the lengh is perfect. It never slows down and your thrown in the middle of the action from the very beginning. The ending is so satisfying,

  • Couple on the Backtrack

    3. Couple on the Backtrack

    Korean Drama - 2017, 12 episodes

    10

One of my favorite dramas of all times. Most romances usually show us what happens to our main leads when they fall in love up to the point where they get together. This drama shows us the difficulties of a couple who loved each other dearly but stopped communicating as they aged, to the point where they can't stand each other anymore. When they are about to divorce and go their separate ways, they are thrown back to a time when they had yet to meet each other. They plan to live their lives differently this time, but will it work out the way they want? Touching. It's the only word i can use to describe this drama.

  • Mr. Queen

    4. Mr. Queen

    Korean Drama - 2020, 20 episodes

    8.0

This one is a 10 in my heart. The only reason why I gave it an 8 is because the ending felt homophobic to me, but the drama itself is so good i can't put it into words.  Mr. Queen tells the story of a famous male chef who finds himself trapped in the body of a queen of the Jeoson dinasty. It's in part comedic and light, in part serious, but the romance people! The romance in this one is something else. The chemistry between the leads is to kill for. Best enemies to lovers to date.

  • Signal

    5. Signal

    Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes

    9.0

This one kept me at the edge of my seat from start to finish. Contrary to other time travelling stories who are either set in the present or in the past, this one has us following our leads both in the past and in the present, as they communicate through a walkie-talkie through time and space to solve cases that have gone cold. Incredible.

  • Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

    6. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

    Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes

    9.0

I'm putting this here even though it isn't quite time travel. The characters either have lived through eras or have been reincarnated in the present time. Still, there is that quality of "a character from another era ends up in another time period" so i'm including it. This one is a classic. One of the best or even the best fantasy k-drama of all time.

  • The Great Doctor

    7. The Great Doctor

    Korean Drama - 2012, 24 episodes

    9.0

One of the oldest entries here but still such a little masterpiece. Set in the Goryo era, it tells the story of a royal guard travelling to the future in search of heaven's doctor. Intriguing political plots, amazing secondary characters and ost. The romance is not flashed out and as was common in older dramas the affectionate scenes are really low-key, but it still pulls at all my heartstrings. To this day Lee Minho's best performance.

  • Queen and I

    8. Queen and I

    Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes

    8.0

Guilty pleasure. It tells the story of a man from Jeoson travelling to the present time and meeting an actress who plays the part of Queen Inhyun, which the ml knows as his queen in his time period. The most engaging one if you're searching for a drama where a character from the past has to get used to present time and mingle. This is basically 95% romance and little else but it's so good and easy to watch, I lost count of how many times I watched it despite the outdated production.

  • Somehow 18

    9. Somehow 18

    Korean Drama - 2017, 10 episodes

    10

Lead male travels back in time to save his classmate from suicide. Outstanding performance when I totally thought it was going to be lackuster at best.

  • Twinkling Watermelon

    10. Twinkling Watermelon

    Korean Drama - 2023, 16 episodes

    8.0

This one is so heartwarming. It's mostly based on the relationship between a teenager and his disabled father, and their whole dynamic is absolutely STUNNING. The main lead ends up going back in time to meet his parents before he was born and oh boy, were they beautiful. It's extremely heartwarming and this would have been a 10 if i had enjoyed the ml with the fl more, but alas. Not that they weren't good together, i just didn't find them as interesting as everything else.

  • Rooftop Prince

    11. Rooftop Prince

    Korean Drama - 2012, 20 episodes

    8.0

Has a similar concept to Queen Inhyun's man and an equally good execution. The crown prince is thrown in the present so he can learn the truth about the death of the crown princess, whom he loved, by meeting her present reincarnation.

  • Marry My Husband

    12. Marry My Husband

    Korean Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    8.0

This is the story of a woman getting a second chance at life after being killed by her own husband. The second leads are phenomenal and the story is extremely engating. The first part is better exectuted than the second, in my opinion, but it's very gripping overall.

  • Life on Mars

    13. Life on Mars

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    8.0

If you're searching for a mind-trip in your time-travelling drama, this is the drama for you. Well developed story about self-discovery and friendship.

  • Splash Splash Love

    14. Splash Splash Love

    Korean Drama - 2015, 2 episodes

    8.0

This one is cute. It has all the basic elements of period time-travelling. To watch if you want something light and romantic.

  • Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

    15. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

    Korean Drama - 2016, 20 episodes

    8.0

Watch this one only if you're ready to experience real pain. You'll get attached to all the characters and that will hurt you like nothing else. The male lead is top notch, I fell in love with the actor because of this drama.

  • Lovely Runner

    16. Lovely Runner

    Korean Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    8.0

This is the story of a disabled girl that goes back in time to save the life of the person who inspired her to stay alive. There are some very high highs in this drama, it is touching and very well written for being mainly a romance, but I also think it would have been 100% a hit if it had been 4 or 5 episodes shorter. The main couple is so cute though, it's worth it.

  • Live Up to Your Name

    17. Live Up to Your Name

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

    7.0

Has a similar concept to Faith, since it has doctors involved, but it's less mystical about it all. It's set mostly in the present, while Faith was set mostly in the past. It took me a long time to decide to watch this one because the trailer and the cover poster didn't look like something I would enjoy, but the drama itself was actually very good! It was a nice surprise.

  • Extraordinary You

    18. Extraordinary You

    Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes

    7.0

This was cuter than I expected! The female lead finds herself in a webtoon but as a side character. After understanding her position in the story, she tries to take the lead, making unexpected things happen in the original story.

  • Familiar Wife

    19. Familiar Wife

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    7.0

A married man wishes to leave his unbearable wife and goes back in time to change the day he met her. He wakes up again, married to his first love instead, he and his ex-wife are strangers now, he seems to have the best life he could have ever asked for, but familiarity turns into attraction and things don't go quite as planned. It's similar to Go Back Couple, but the protagonists do not stay in the past, they just change the present based on the decisions they take 1 day in the past, then fast-forward without really living the in-between. The tension between the mains is really good when she still doesn't know what is going on, but it felt a little bit too long for what it was trying to accomplish. I still think Go Back Couple excelled at executing this trope and nothing else managed quite the same amount of emotion.

  • Bon Appetit, Your Majesty

    20. Bon Appetit, Your Majesty

    Korean Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    7.0

Enjoyable but wrapped up in a very rushed and vague manner. It felt like I was watching Food Wars (the anime) at times, which was the good part. It definitely lacked in the political intrigue part, which to me is extremely important in a period drama.

  • Tunnel

    21. Tunnel

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

    7.0

Engaging but redundant, there are a lot of scenes that make you feel like we are not moving forward at all. The plot itself is good though, so it's worth a watch.

  • A Time Called You

    22. A Time Called You

    Korean Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    7.0

This one is a remake of "Someday or One Day" and what shines through the most is the acting, especially of the female lead. The plot is pretty confusing, if you haven't watched the original, and the story drags a bit towards the end, but it was very engaging overall.

  • Love Game in Eastern Fantasy

    23. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 32 episodes

    7.0

This one had so much potential, the concept is really interesting and the leads are so cute together, but the writing unforunately didn't always shine, especially towards the ending. The beginning is also kind of silly but I could get past that, since it was just a way to start the actual story. Still fun.

  • Love Destiny

    24. Love Destiny

    Thai Drama - 2018, 15 episodes

    6.0

Dealing with time travel by reincarnation. It was confusing at times and archaic in the romantic plot. Then again, perhaps my understanding of period thai colture isn't the best. Definitely one of the best lakorns out there, but not up to par with other asian counterparts to me.

  • The King: Eternal Monarch

    25. The King: Eternal Monarch

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    6.0

This one wanted to be very grand but it fell short. It's a middle ground between Goblin and Faith, but the plot itself doesn't quite reach the same epicness. More than time travel we are dealing with travelling through dimentions here.

  • The First Night with the Duke

    26. The First Night with the Duke

    Korean Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

This is transmigration at its finest and I wished I enjoyed it more than I did, but it didn't grip me at all. The mains have no chemistry and even the writing between them isn't much to look at. It's enjoyable in a silly way, but there are so much better dramas to watch, even on this topic.
