1. Flower of Evil
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
-
2. Good Doctor
Korean Drama - 2013, 20 episodes
This drama has a really special place in my heart. It was one of the first few dramas I’d stumbled upon and ignited my love for kdramas.
Our MC has autism and savant syndrome, and is brilliant in terms of medical knowledge. But he struggles with communication and interpersonal skills, and hence faces difficulty as he starts working at the hospital.
Everything feels so sincere, kind, and I think our lovely MC had definitely left a positive impact on my growth as a person when I watched it more than a decade ago.

3. Hikaru no Go
Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes
I love love love this show. It’s only 36 episodes but I need more…
The story is about a growth of a young man(Shi Guang) in his journey in Go, all while a 1500+ year old spirit(though he insists he isn’t a spirit) mentor(Chu Ying) guides him.
I love how realistic our main character’s journey is. Aside from the fact that he has a godly mentor beside him, he still takes time to learn. He faces difficulties. His parents doesn’t want him to abandon his studies and embark on such an unconventional and difficult path. He loses, A LOT. Although he has such a powerful cheat, he makes a it a rule to play honestly, which I find admirable. His emotions feel so raw and sincere—his tears are heart-wrenching and his happiness is infectious. He’s a cheeky teenager who’s a little playful but still incredibly kind.
Chu Ying, our beloved 1500+ year old child. A man who loves Go so much that even after 15 centuries he’s still pursuing the Divine Move in Go. Being an ancient soul, it’s really cute how he gets fascinated by the modern technologies (this drama takes place before AI though!! No Alphago here). He is filled with wisdom, and is undoubtedly the strongest Go player ever, but he is still respectful to every single player, still respects Go, and is a pure and kind soul.
Side characters in this show are all memorable. They don’t feel like mere side characters that feed to the plot, they feel like main characters to their own story, that we’re just catching a glimpse of. Everyone has their past, everyone’s trying their best in life. There is no ‘villain’ of the story; as they say, Go is a battle against yourself.
Still, the most beautiful thing in the drama is probably the relationship between Chu Ying andShi Guang. They aren’t just student and mentor— they’re friends, they’re kin, they share a bond that belongs uniquely to them.
Chu Ying introduced Shi Guang to the world of Go. Shi Guang introduced Chu Ying to the world outside of Go.

4. Hospital Playlist
Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

5. Kill Me, Heal Me
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
If you watch kdramas, you’ve probably heard of this classic before so not gonna explain lol.
Huge huge huge props to Ji Sung. If not for his brilliant acting (7 characters, 1 actor! It’s crazy. Imagine opening a list of characters and half of it is just his name), I don’t think I would have loved the show as much as I did. Of course everyone else did great too, the romance between our FL and ML(s? Same body different alter what do I even say) had great chemistry, so did one of the alters and her oppa LOL.
A really interesting concept executed very well.

7. Mouse
Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes

8. Mysterious Lotus Casebook
Chinese Drama - 2023, 40 episodes
There’s something really, really charming about this show.
The story depicts the tale of a man who’d fallen from being the strongest in the world, to a poisoned man(with a new identity) who runs a humble little traveling clinic with his dog.
He meets a stubborn young master who’d proclaimed himself the disciple of the world’s number one (all while said ‘shifu’ is in front of him with no recollection of a new disciple), his old rival who wants to have a rematch because he found out he’d won a victory against a poisoned man(while he sharpened his sword, our MC sharpened his tongue instead). All three of them end up solving a series of cases that lead to the truth behind the incident that started everything— the death of our MC’s senior brother.
Once again I love all of our main leads and the relationship that grows between all of them, it’s super cute. Also special mention to the female antagonist of the show, she’s a wild lady LOLLL.

9. Psychopath Diary
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
I love this show LOL, this is the epitome of misunderstandings causing the most hilarious and bizarre events.
Our MC is a timid and weak guy who’d planned to jump off the roof, but fate’s got other things planned for him. In the building he’d planned to jump from, there was a serial killer doing serial killer things, and our MC ended up witnessing it. He ran away, and got hit by a (police)car. Now he’s got amnesia! The killer keeps a diary with the victims fingerprints, and while chasing the unwelcome witness, he ended up dropping the diary and had to escape from the scene because of the police car. The diary gets returned to the wrong owner, and the amnesiac MC mistakes the diary for his own, and now he thinks he is a serial killer…….
I went into this drama thinking about how ridiculous the synopsis sounded but it ended up being hilarious lmao. I mean it still sounds ridiculous but it’s a fun watch.

10. Strangers from Hell
Korean Drama - 2019, 10 episodes
About a guy who moves into Seoul for work and had no choice but to live in a cheap Gosiwon due to the lack of funds. Unfortunately for him, his neighbours aren’t exactly the most pleasant, and the most charismatic person he meets there may be the worst of them all. It doesn’t hel that his workplace isn’t very welcoming.
Very psychological horror. Every single person acted the hell out of the show(or should I say into), especially the twins oh my lord. It was very interesting to see effects of the environment on our male lead; I could really feel the intensity of his helplessness and paranoia because good lord was the place creepy (and I love it). Honestly every time Lee Dong Wook appeared on screen he gave me the chills, and made me want to pick Im Siwan up and run but at the same time shove him into the former’s arms.

11. The Bad Kids
Chinese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

12. The Guest
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
Best drama I’ve seen related to spirits and exorcism so far. Story is about a psychic, a priest, and a detective working together to find and exorcist the strongest evil spirit— Park Il Do. This spirit has the power to allow other spirits to possess humans, causing them to slowly go mad and eventually murder.
The world is amazingly built. The way the spirits acted, the price of exorcism, and the consequences of pursuing an evil spirit no one else sees were all thoughtfully crafted and executed masterfully. The actors of the possessed characters were brilliant, it genuinely made me fearful of the evil spirit and fear for the human they took control of.
I absolutely love the friendship between our trio and still crave to see more of them. When they first meet, they don’t really get along, but as they get put into situations where they have no choice but to work together(or die), they start to learn more about each other, depend on each other, and trust each other. Our psychic may be a little hotheaded and trauma filled but he’s incredibly brave and loving. Our priest may feel a little cold and uptight, but he’s very reliable, and is willing to sacrifice himself for others(okay all of them are TT). Our detective may be the only female in the group , but it doesn’t stop her from being the protective guardian as the muscle of the group. All of the characters feel raw and real with their strengths and flaws.
The show is quite dark and the demon and spirit themes may not be for everyone, but please do give it a shot because this is a really brilliant gem.
