A quiet, slow-paced and nuanced film from Takeshi Kitano, with poignant cinematography (formed by long static takes and clear linear camera movements), minimal dialogue and a wonderful, dreamy score by Joe Hisaishi.
It tells the simple tale of a young man who dreams of becoming a competitive surfer and the silent, yet emotional heavy, love with his always doting girlfriend. Despite neither of them speaks a single word through the entire film (since they’re both deaf-mute), there is an instant attachment to this couple: the looks they exchange, their contented smiles hold more emotional weight than any spoken dialogue.

Cozy, feel-good, soothing and very heart-warming, this little gem was a breath of fresh air among all the angsty, full of cliches autumn dramas.
It almost feels as if I watched a slice-of-life j-drama, if you know what I mean.
A great watch, with every episode being a treat to the soul, and not only for coffee lovers like me!

There are many Japanese dramas with creative, unusual plots, and this short drama is definitely one of those!
Some times it is awkward cringy and over the top, some times relaxing and comfortable, some other times emotional and even philosophical, but definitely a fun, oddly addicting and entertaining watch.
