1. When Life Gives You Tangerines
Korean Drama - 2025, 16 episodes

This is the first drama I completed in over a year and I had a wonderful (but tearful) time watching it. Shows that leave a longlasting impressions are rare and WLGYT is exactly that. I hadn't felt this strongly and fondly about characters in a very long time. I'm glad I gave this a chance despite my incredibly long drama slump.

This was simply a lot of fun. Loved the main characters and their antics. The show surprisingly had a lot of heart despite its silly premise. I'm choosing to ignore the second leads because one single scene completely ruined them (but especially the SFL) for me. I do think the show was maybe 2 or 3 eps too long because I did end up feeling slightly frustrated in its third quarter at how repetitive the scenes between Yimeng and Nanheng became (right before the identity reveal especially).
I'm also coming out of this show as a huge Liu Yuning enthusiast which is absolutely not something I had predicted going into it afsjklg.

I would have rated this higher if not for the way the Hong Kong plot point got resolved. I love Yi Fan and realistically, it absolutely makes sense for her to leave again. But from a story-telling standpoint for a romance show, it felt frustrating because of how up until that point her growth was written. I would probably have appreciated that part a lot more if it had an actual impact on her journey as a character. I would have loooved to see her start therapy for example. That being said, I did really enjoy having two very introspective and reserved characters as leads in a proper romance. And both the actors and the characters had wonderful chemistry and made this very web-novelly script work.
