Faith's Top Shows
Dramas that have made it into my top list! (Last updated 8/21/22)
-
1. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
My favorite kdrama! Precedent for fantasy dramas of its time, and has my favorite pilot episode to-date.
-
2. While You Were Sleeping
Korean Drama - 2017, 32 episodes
Also a winner in pilot episodes, I'm a sucker for content related to dreams and love the mystery wrapped into this. Also has one of my most-hated villains. I hate his guts.
-
3. Life on Mars
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
THE PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER. I always recommend this show when talking about kdramas. Time travel elements mixed with mind-bending loss of reality, and the mystery is so well crafted. There was never a dull moment.
-
4. When the Camellia Blooms
Korean Drama - 2019, 40 episodes
The narrative is atypical and built on the strong bond of community, and I love my mysteries. One of Kang Ha Nuel's most iconic roles.
-
5. Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
If this isn't one of the top dramas of 2022 I'll...
Woo Young Woo is an extraordinary attorney traversing the ordinary world in such an endearing way, I was rooting for her the entire time. This show pushed its way into my top 5 with the force of a blue whale! A memorable experience with heartwarming characters (and one of the best boys in kdramaland.)
-
6. The Fiery Priest
Korean Drama - 2019, 40 episodes
An absolute KING. I love "overpowered" leads that exceed expectations, and our fiery priest is a badass rift with the conflict of his character. The colorful cast makes this a wonderful addition to Park Jae-bum's narrative of a dark horse dismantling a power system.
-
7. Hospital Playlist
Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
I shouldn't have to explain myself with this. Hospital Playlist is a touching and hilarious narrative of five friends. The only medical drama I won't hesitate to dive into.
-
8. Hospital Playlist Season 2
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Season 2!!
-
9. Prison Playbook
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
Another drama by the same writer/director duo of Hospital Playlist featuring the hilarious and surprisingly heartwarming ins-and-outs of prison life.
-
10. Crash Landing on You
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
An epic love story that crosses borders!! Top drama of 2020 for a reason.
-
11. The Uncanny Counter
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
A lovely surprise of fantasy and action mixed with the found family we wish we all had. Taught me that intersections are the worst place to be in ever.
-
12. Extraordinary You
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
Dan-oh!! A protagonist after my own heart! Contemporary Fantasy remains to be my favorite genre of all time, and Dan-oh navigated her world with guts and a hint of unhingedness that made this narrative funny, heartwarming, and unforgettable.
-
13. Vincenzo
Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes
Another fantastic feat by Park Jae-bum!! Vincenzo is a dark commedy heralded by a dark horse and his motley crew ready to devour their enemies. I give Taecyon my kudos as MVP of this series for his performance!!
-
14. Le Coup de Foudre
Chinese Drama - 2019, 35 episodes
A solid Chinese narrative about the relationship of an unlikely couple, ranging from their time in high school to adulthood where their paths cross again.
-
15. My Roommate Is a Gumiho
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
Your typical immortalxregular girl pairing, but with a twist. A gumiho that struggles with empathy despite his experience, and our lovely amazing Lee Dam who knows what she wants and goes for it. A protagonist that doesn't let the fantasy genre undermine her sense of self and beliefs (plus she's a little nuts, which we all love)
-
16. Mystic Pop-Up Bar
Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
A wholesome found family drama with supernatural elements mixed in!!
-
17. Stranger
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
Though parts of the investigation drag, this show remains in my list for the chemistry between the leads and the twists and turns the mystery takes to unfold. And also Cho Seung-woo.
-
18. Stranger Season 2
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
Season 2! I didn't enjoy the first half as much as I loved season 1, but the power duo pulled through!
-
19. Fated to Love You
Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes
One of my older shows, I watched this show for Jang Hyuk and stayed for Jang Hyuk. I wasn't used to his lighter roles (I'm used to Voice, Tell Me What You Saw, even Wok of Love) and despite other renditions to this plot the original takes the cake. Melodrama at it's finest.
-
20. Hot Stove League
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Talk about another powerhouse. I always look forward to Min Namkoong's roles, and this drama reminded me why. An underdog turning a situation around 180 will always be appreciated, and the desire of the characters to persevere had me cheering along with them. The baseball scene was also new to me and made me curious. Never a dull moment!
-
21. Queen of Mystery
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
There's 2 seasons of Queen of Mystery, but I've only listed Season 1 as my watchthrough of 2 isn't complete. A lovely detective story featuring an atypical housewife extremely talented at solving mysteries and her partner, a gruff and over-the-top detective passionate about his cases. Their chemistry is 10/10!
-
22. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
My very first drama :'). Do Bong Soon was the reason I fell in love with Korean Dramas and will always be the reason I love them. The strongest female lead I know!!
-
23. Perfume
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
A heavy topic tackled in a fantastical way, featuring a couple who love each other despite what's on the inside and out. Has wonderful lessons to teach featuring an eclectic cast of characters.
-
24. Serendipity
Chinese Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Another chinese drama I recently fell in love with, Serendipity is short and to the point, an aspect to storytelling that I'll always respect. I almost wish there was more (there was opportunity to develop the narrative towards the middle without dragging, but I'll take what I can get)! Their relationship felt organic and the world-building was in-depth despite the tropes still squeezed in. I stayed up late to finish this one!
