My Favourites/Highly Recommended

This is a list of my absolute favourite Asian dramas and movies, that I would like to recommend to everyone! I still re-watch them from time to time, and all of them left a very deep impression on me.

Please note: I am not sticking to any particular country or genre here, so there will be a mix of everything.

  • Goodbye My Princess: Director's Cut

    1. Goodbye My Princess: Director's Cut

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 55 episodes

    10

An epic tragedy that will make you go through countless emotions from start to finish! Expect extremely well written complex characters and a storyline that you will remember forever. I recommend the Director's cut since it contains many extra scenes that improve the flow of the story and provide a better background. A special mention should be some very feminist dialogues that the FL delivers, that had me pleasantly surprised because I did not expect something like that from a period drama. In fact, feminism is a running theme throughout the story which makes this already legendary drama even better.

  • A Piece of Your Mind

    2. A Piece of Your Mind

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    9.5

This has hands down the best relationship development ever! It is a slow burn, growing slowly and naturally at its own pace, and the cinematography and storyline is so beautiful. The leads had amazing chemistry and both suited the quiet and sensitive characters very well. I wish it had the standard 16 episodes so that the story could have been even more complete...

  • I’m Drunk, I Love You

    3. I’m Drunk, I Love You

    Filipino Movie - 2017

    9.0

This is mainly a coming of age movie with themes of unrequited love, friendship, graduation and music. It has extremely well written and realistic characters and storyline. The actors were extremely brilliant in their roles, and you would find yourself reading into every single move of theirs. I don't think I need to say anything about the chemistry between the leads, those who know will know (Sizzling!). The story does not explain everything the characters do and leaves a lot for interpretation, it is pretty thought provoking. Also, this has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard!

  • Bridges of Love

    4. Bridges of Love

    Filipino Drama - 2015, 103 episodes

    8.5

This is actually about two brothers that got separated when they were kids, who eventually meet again after growing up but that is not the main highlight. This has one of the best portrayals of a couple in a relationship, something that can instantly become stale and boring as soon as two characters start dating if not done right. The couple's stares and interactions are so genuine and effortless, it does not feel like watching acting at all. And there isn't only romantic scenes but also trying times which the couple goes through trying to navigate their present situations and their past. The actors have the best chemistry ever (no explanations needed). What I did not like here though was the deliberate portrayal of one family as good and the other as bad, but besides that this will keep your attention for sure.

  • Failing in Love

    7. Failing in Love

    Korean Drama - 2019, 10 episodes

Best webdrama I have ever watched till now! In fact, the storyline, dialogues, cinematography and actors are so top-notch that many full length dramas and movies pale in comparison. This may be a web-drama with shorter episodes, but it feels like watching a movie, due to the care put into each and every detail. The plot is a realistic take on teen love and crushes mixed with some nostalgia, which is quite refreshing. The actors did a brilliant job too.

  • 14 Again: I Love You Two Thousand

    8. 14 Again: I Love You Two Thousand

    Thai Movie - 2023

  • General and I

    9. General and I

    Chinese Drama - 2017, 62 episodes

    9.0

My first Chinese drama ever. The best thing here: INTELLECTUAL CHEMISTRY! This was one of the first dramas I watched where the basis of the leads relationship is pure intellect and shared interests even while belonging to opposing sides. Since this is a longer drama, there are various breathtaking locations and places that the events take place which also builds up the adventure quotient for this as well.
