What a roller coaster!  Though the pacing was rough at times.  Still, overall a great watch.

Drama 2

An absolute much watch for history drama lovers.

Also, watching the English dub is a lot like playing Skyrim 'cause I s2g there's maybe 5 or so voice actors.

It felt like the show forgot it was inside a game until the very end.

Also, still can't stand the ML.  Zero chemistry.  Though perhaps my biggest gripe is that I don't recall the FL squealing "Ohmygod!" in her inner monologue at all this season.  I thought that little quirk was so adorable lol.

Being a diehard fan of the originals (when Takashi Shimizu was on board) it's possible my expectations were too high.  This may have faired better as a standalone.  That said, when judged as its own piece, it's not scary but it is very unsettling at times.  Will probably rewatch.

I figured I'd enjoy it but I didn't anticipate being so impressed with the story and the FL's personal journey.

This show wasn't 10/10 from start to finish.  At times it dropped to a 6, then shot up to 9.5, then down and up and so on and so forth.  In spite of its many flaws I remained engaged and entertained all the same.

Shows like this are my jam, I don't know why I didn't watch it sooner!  Will continue with season 2 and 3, but given how short they are they won't be added here as separate entries.  That feels like cheating lol.

There were more highs than lows, but some lows were present nonetheless.  Sadly the pacing was one of them, from some slowing down near the middle to a rushed ending.  And certain events seemed to happen more for shock value than contributing to the narrative.

More comedy than crime, until an abrupt tone shift near the end.

I thoroughly enjoy all these early to mid 2010s k-dramas that didn't take themselves too seriously.  Good, goofy, dumb fun.  And I mean that in a very endearing way.

Nothing spectacular, but I've never been a big fan of the Food genre for some reason, and a change of pace is always nice.

Messy families, small town drama, racism, manipulating women into entering/staying in relationships with abusive men, some things really are universal.

Well...that was a rather lukewarm start to the year.

That wasn't much better.  But the twists were kinda fun.

This would've been very hard to enjoy had I not already seen Eternal Love.  That said there were some things that I thought the movie did better than the show and the special effects budget was very well spent.  It's just such a rich story, it's hard to condense that into a movie.  It was very ambitious, that much I will say, and I think the creators made a smart move with when in the full story the movie itself begins.

This was hard to sit through at first, given personal experiences, but the message is important.  I do feel like it got a little muddled by the romance, however.  It's based on a story so I don't know how accurate any of it is, but I feel like strictly from a storytelling perspective the romance could've been a subplot rather than the primary focus of the second half.

This movie is not shy about its subject material, and I respect the cast and crew for that.  I also appreciate that there was no forced heteromance.  The child actors were incredible in these roles.  Absolutely not for the faint of heart.

Stellar casting and performances, though I would've liked to see more about life in North Korea from the perspective of the North Korean characters.  I applaud the film for not coming off as particularly judgemental though, it was very character-driven.

There's no "good" or "perfect" way to end a movie about war in my opinion.  But there's a human way, and that human element is arguably the most important (especially if it's based on real events).  This movie nailed it.  Also I'd love to learn more about the real journalists who inspired Megan Fox's character.

Always nice to see a live action adaptation that doesn't shy away from its manga/anime roots.

Maybe this is because it's an adaptation, not an original drama, but I really appreciate how openly affectionate the ML is.  And despite never having seen the original series, all those cameos and throwbacks are always a nice touch in a later/final installment.

At times I felt like it was telling multiple stories at once but without a cohesive narrative tying it all together, and I have mixed feelings about the ending.  HOWEVER the performances, especially the child female lead, were incredible and it definitely got some tears out of me.
