I really love this show for its comfort value, as it doesn’t rely on cliffhangers and stressful events to keep you interested, but still manages to hold your attention. It's pretty long, but is great if you're going through a stressful time and need a show that's just fun and easy to watch. The intro is also pretty great and never fails to get me excited for the episode. I've now watched it all the way through twice and plan to watch it for the third time soon. I will say, though, it has an unexpected heartwarming scene regarding family in the middle of the series that does make me tear up just a little bit, but in a good way.

  • Misaeng: Incomplete Life

    2. Misaeng: Incomplete Life

    Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes

    9.5

Who knew that an office job could be so exciting? Throughout the show, the main character overcomes odds and trials to improve his future despite his coworkers looking down on him and setting him up to fail. His efforts show a theme of inspiration and perseverance and the idea that we're capable of a lot more than we give ourselves credit for in a world where we often feel like imposters in the competitive environments of work, school, and  many other areas of life. When I watched this show, I found myself really rooting for the main character and taking a step back to look at the ways in which I shortchange my own efforts and abilities.

  • Double World

    3. Double World

    Chinese Movie - 2020

    8.5

I really enjoyed this movie. Although, I understand why the score is what it is. While the story had so much potential, there simply wasn't enough time to develop the story and backgrounds of the characters in the way that they were reaching for. They were trying to tell too many stories on too grand a scale in a short movie and that resulted in it feeling rushed and a bit flat. By the end, it felt like there was so much of the story and the world left unexplored. However, I feel like that's common for such an epic undertaking in this genre. That being said, I think the most important point is that it left me wanting to see more, and that's a mark of success in my mind. If this could have been drawn out into a series, where they have the time to really dive into the story, develop the characters, and make the viewer invested, I think this likely would have done really well.

Aside from the story, this movie really shines through in the quality of its production. The costumes and sets were great (and the wigs were good); the cgi was well done; the fights were well choreographed and exciting; and the cinematography was really enjoyable. I really appreciate the work that went into the visuals of this movie and would probably watch it again with a friend, if just to enjoy this aspect.

To make this short, if you're looking for a masterpiece of story telling that will tug at your heart and leave you in tears, then this probably isn't what you're looking for. However, if you want something that's action-packed, has great visuals, gives a brief glimpse into an epic fantasy world full of potential stories, and will satisfy your desire for adventure, then you'd likely enjoy this.

Action-packed with an emotional twist that touches upon aspects of loss and family, this show had me on the edge of my seat and ready for more. I'll be looking forward to watching season 2 upon its release.
