My Favourite K-Drama List

Let’s be honest—when it comes to period dramas, I’m completely on board for strong female leads, layered with just the right dose of wit, grace, and grit. Add in some charming or loyal side characters (you know the ones that end up owning half the scenes?) and I’m all in. I naturally gravitate toward historical storylines, and while I tend to expect grander cinematography, elaborate sets, and costume splendor from Chinese dramas, my love for K-dramas takes a slightly different shape.

With Korean dramas, I lean more toward the fantasy genre—less of the traditional xianxia fare, which I’ve discovered over time isn’t quite my cup of tea. Instead, I’m drawn to the creative, often contemporary-infused fantasy worlds that K-dramas do so well. There’s something about their storytelling—often quirky, sometimes dark, but always with heart—that keeps me coming back.

Modern-day K-dramas also take up a little more space in my watchlist than their Chinese counterparts. When I do go for a present-day setting, I find myself drawn to dramas that explore the lives of doctors, lawyers, or police officers—especially when paired with some action and mature relationships that avoid unnecessary angst and over-the-top hardship.

If you’re nodding along right now, we probably share the same taste. Which means this list might just help you find your next must-watch drama.
