The Long Ballad reunion

A true classic among classics. This got to be the most impactful historical drama I've ever watched. The political schemes are so profound and riveting. The ML is such an intelligent and calculating but also extremely selfless character, who prioritises the good of his family and country over blind revenge. There's also a bittersweet bromance between the ML and SML, Hu Ge and Wang Kai are both very classy actors that are a joy to watch. Plus, you'll get to see Leo Wu as a cute and feisty child.

*Beware if you're new to historical C-dramas as this can get a bit dark and heavy, but it's truly an eye-opening experience!

***My review***

This is a truly refreshing watch with hilarious, well-developed characters and a witty script. Dylan Wang perfectly embodies the role of the righteous yet dubious, loyal yet shifty Xu Qi An, which I think is his best performance to date. Xu Qi An's relationship with Lord Wei showcases a heartwarming father-son bond. I have a soft spot for the Guardians, especially Yang Yan, who's incredibly sassy. I also love how the modern references are so blatantly obvious and the mystery unfolds layer by layer in such a satisfying manner.

LBFAD Xianxia Guide

This showcases the most exquisite and surreal cinematography I've seen in historical dramas. Everything has a rhythm to it, like poetry in motion, from the seamless transitions between the fast-paced action and slow-motion sequences to the chillingly calm close-ups of the characters' expressions. I love the intrigues and machinations, and each character really stands out. But Lu Yu Xiao's portrayal of the female spy is simply breathtaking. Behind the innocent face and soft voice, she hides a terrifyingly calculative, resolute and ruthless side.

Every scene in this drama looks like a painting, so gorgeous and serene. It reminded me of the aesthetics in A Dream of Splendor. Wang Chu Ran and Zhang Wan Yi are the dream team, they're so badass while still bickering like an old married couple.

I love all of the couples so much, even if I'm usually not into multi-couple dramas!  It's so refreshing to see each couple having an engaging plotline. I also can't believe Wang Xing Yue and Liang Yong Qi actually became brother-in-laws after The Double, I guess yesterday's enemies can be today's friends.
