If u compare that statement to how the drama introduced us JH ( a mysterious character with unknown background ) this means the show starts after the fight that takes place at the beach
Which JH faces a group of warriors . I think the show starts a decade after that event . Thats my speculation from what I noticed so far

As I understand that scene is about a past event which happened around a decade ago , and the old man in the prison may is one of Jang Hyun’s subordinates at that time (( JH i think was a royal guard of the crown prince or a general may be ))
And I remember the old saying that Jang Hyun will be back and the comeback he is telling is exactly this ongoing episodes

As i Speculate the 1st part is about hardships and the pain they got through and 2nd part is about prosperity and peace ☮️
