People constantly bringing up Stockholm or lima syndrome seem to completely disregard what actual power dynamics are at play when it comes to vegas and pete.
pete isn't some random helpless person who was snatched from the side of the road or an innocent hostage. pete walked into the minor family compound knowing that there was a huge risk that he'd be caught. he even told kinn that he was fully aware that he would probably be caught, tortured and killed. he's fully aware of the risks his job entails and what kind of world he's a part of. i don't think there's any part of pete that saw vegas' torture of him as something personal he held against him. if someone had broken into the main family's computers and stolen secrets, he'd be doing the same thing. his main frustration comes from being kept alive for so long and that vegas threatened his grandmother, but even then that's just something the mafia would do.
so when he gets to know "the real vegas", it's not a hostage who is suddenly growing affectionate of their captor. pete is able to compartmentalize and differentiate between vegas, the man he's finally getting to know and feels affection for and vegas, the mobster who is just doing his job punishing a spy.
and the same thing is happening to vegas! he's getting to know the real pete and not just the man tasked to spy on him that he needs to punish and then kill. if anything he's having a harder time bc he's higher up in the food chain and right now he's fully failing at his job.
