The death is the only way to escape from him and avenge the death of her family knowing that she has no mental nor military strength to bring LCY down, the man she ever loved.

So, it's either WC lied to Yun Xiang about SYN. I think SYN had died along with her family. And this SYN must have met WC during her escape from the Ling Yuan Sect and made a deal with WC to take down Nangong Fang and secure the peace between their sects by her marrying Yun Xiang.

Wen Chong was active in Nandu and Nangong Fang was messing with him at that time. So, SYN teamed up with Wen Chong to get rid of Nangong Fang.
