Putting aside some weird plot choices, pairings, timeline issues, and generally strange world-building... why…
This is a good point. There were so many cgi elements in S1 to let us know we were dealing with demons and deities and other non mortals. I though old Mu was a deity and I'm pretty sure he mentioned it when they found out who Jing was with something like "He's a high ranking deity unlike us lower deities" or something like that. Outside of the flying carriages and XL demon eyes, there wasn't really anything that said this is fantasy in S2. Except they mentioned the time lapse which you also didn't feel because mortal villages stayed the same. Like it's been 300 years or whatever and they still are in grass huts?? Even with all of the deities around?
I know it doesn't matter for the story, but the Emperor was a child when he took the position, but Consort Li was the previous Emperor's Consort. How old is she supposed to be?
Do you expect CX to have just given up on gaining the throne when things got tough with uncles? Do you expect…
The difference is there were gains. CX was fighting for the throne. He gained something in the end.
Army was gaining nothing in the end by fighting. Sure, they kept their pride for the cause, but at what cost? You have to know when to fight and know when to see that it's time to move on. The world was changing and everyone was working for peace. Like good job guys for sticking to you duty, but it's over. Time to put down the weapons and lead some peaceful lives. Have wives and babies and a house with a yard.
I get it. I do. I just think they were foolish at the end and XL just accepted it knowing they had no chance.
Also, every comment about XL doesn't have to result at a dig at other characters. I wanted XL to see this path lead to nothing and just walk away so he could have his happy ending instead of melting into a poison fog alone at the end. They had so many chances at peace.
they did die for nothing . XiangLiu led them to a slaughter, his 6 heads remaining were all gonghong one track...…
I honestly think they would have lost their morale if XL walked away. I mean who wouldn't be confident with a nine (7 🥹) and headed demon on their side? I know if it were me, I'd go from hell yeah to hell no instantly if XL walked away lol

And this is what made me mad. Like HJ probably (a big probably) would have listened if XL said there is no way this is going to end well for them. They'd be wasting their lives and their deaths literally would not change a thing. Plus, there were like 50 of them vs the royal army. Like come on! Surrendering isn't the worst thing. HJ or XL could have been ruler of that land and continued to live. Ugh. It just seemed out of character for XL who lived for centuries to want to end it all with no gains. But I guess that's the path XL chose.
Coming back hours later. XL and HJ army.... Man... What a bunch of... I don't know. Like was the cause so important to basically commit suicide? Because that's what it was. They had no chance in hell and died for nothing.
I wasn't a XL shipper, but the author did him and the army dirty. XL could have given up and floated around on his sea shell being drunk with Chubby lol Instead, he went out like Jet Li in Hero.
And again, why couldn't we see XY and TSJ living out their best life away from the drama? Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Anyway, hope all of the actors/actresses find more success now! I bet Yang Zi never wants to see another pancake in her life! ðŸ˜
This could have easily been wrapped up in 40 episodes. Splitting it into S1 and S2, allows for comparison which…
The issue is it was never supposed to be broken up. It was filmed altogether before China came out with the 40 episode rule and that second "seasons" had to be aired a year apart. So they had to air the first part and then cut a bunch of the second half which was already done. Xianxia dramas are suffering with this 40 episode law because you can't world build and wrap up character stories in 40 episodes ðŸ˜
I don't know why I was surprised at the ending. I've watched so many Chinese dramas at this point to know they…
I haven't finished that one yet. I started and then either got busy at work, started a new video game, or decided to catch up on other dramas! It's on my watch list and I did finish the first 3 episodes and enjoyed it so far! The freaking chicken! 😂
I'm giving it a solid 9. If China had allowed them to air more episodes since they filmed this altogether, I think…
I don't know why I was surprised at the ending. I've watched so many Chinese dramas at this point to know they almost all have the same ending for the main couple. Just a few minutes if that of healing domestic bliss after we suffered for so long.
I think her reaction to XL dying should have been more passionate. It's not like she couldn't do it. We all know Yang Zi could cry buckets and scream trauma very well. I guess the directors went with a calmer reaction for maybe censorship reasons. Can't have the FL expressing romantic love and heartache for more than one ML or something. The same with morally gray characters. You're either good or evil.
If you are looking for some dramas with satisfying endings:
Love and Redemption. Still in my top 3 Chinese endings where we not only get everyone else's story wrapped up, we get 20 glorious minutes of domestic bliss after Cheng Yi suffered for 99.9% of the drama.
Immortal Samsara. Another Cheng Yi suffer fest. With the additional special episodes, it wraps up the ending nicely. Also, our girl Yang Zi kills it in this role.
Destined. Wraps up nicely with a decent amount of time for domestic bliss after things go south and we suffer with thr leads.
Story of Kunning Palace. Even though it was shorter than the others mentioned, it was a funny moment with his kids and how ML is still petty and jealous lol
Wonderland of Love. Great ending that wrapped everything up and we get more than 90 seconds of domestic bliss.
I'm sure there are more, but those are my top if you want to see the main CP actually have a happy ending that is healing.
I'm giving it a solid 9. If China had allowed them to air more episodes since they filmed this altogether, I think the second half wouldn't have suffered so much with cuts.
That being said, I still enjoyed the story and characters.
Go read the rated reviews! The first thing they said was her crown for the wedding was ugly lol like just shit on Chinese culture because mostly all of the wedding crowns look the same!
