Writer made him like that to differentiate duke su and the ex husband. He is spineless whil duke su can destroy the whole family for her. Even a wound on her body means other people deaths. Duke su is also very twisted but in a right way

he was the one who brought her back to capital. she thought it was the old lady but duke su wrote a letter accusing the prime minister of abandoning his daughter. he was bored and wanted to watch a show when he was in the capital and jiang li was the best candidate so he brought her back

he is like that in the novel too. wherever there is a drama he pulls out a chair and his snacks enjoying it to it's fullest. he sets the stage for some of the schemes too and then watches the play
