I don't think marquis character is well written If you see he actually never loved anyone honestly. Now let's take a look at his relationship with zhixing mom. She was her so called beloved. But he believed jiang words and did not even investigate wheter his wife was having an affair. Rather he lets her lie horibly. He never cared for his 2nd son until he wins polo match. He would never cared about zh if he was not worthy to find gui seal. So all his actions are fake. Then about Intelligence he got easily fooled by Zh. He believed gao ming fortune telling and killed his close guard. This things shows how weak his character got written
